DEVELOPMENT TAKES TIME, WHERE WE HAVENT BEEN, WE WILL GET THERE – PRESIDENT LUNGU

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says he has got something to point to the Zambian people regarding the developmental projects he has done.

Speaking when he toured Chembe mini hospital, Thursday, President Lungu insisted that there was no finishing line to development.

“This is what we are saying, universal health service delivery to all and then some are saying we have to change this game, it is not good enough’ so you have to ask yourself sontapo epo tulesonta (point where we are pointing). I keep emphasising during this tour of duty that development is not a one day event or one night wonder. It takes a process. And I think where we haven’t been, we will be there. Those who are still anticipating and waiting for this kind of facility to just hold their breath because we will reach them. Rome was not built in a day. And I think it takes nine months for the baby to develop fully in the belly,” he said.

“Similarly, it takes a while for development to reach all corners but ultimately we will get there. And as I keep saying, there is no finishing line to development. After this hospital, these doctors will say ‘we need something better’. After all, science and technology is always evolving and getting better all the time. So for me, I have got something to point to the Zambian people that this is what we are doing, this is where we are coming from, this is where we are going. Those who are hallucinating allow them to continue dreaming.”

And a doctor at the hospital, Cardson Kabwe said a theatre would help in surgical procedures in the area.

“To start with, in Chembe, we never had a theatre here so most of the cases we used to refer them to Mansa and that was costly on our part. So you would find that there is an emergency, we never had a theatre and we had to refer to Mansa. So with the coming of this facility, we are very happy because we will be conducting all the surgical procedures here at this facility. We have a mother who is recovering from the anesthesia, we operated this night and she is recovering,” said Dr Kabwe.
