DR KAMBWILI’S ARREST IS NONSENSICAL, FUMES HON CHILANGWA
…release him and drop all the charges immediately, he demands

The opposition Patriotic Front has fumed at the UPND government over the arrest and detention of their party presidential hopeful, Dr Chishimba Kambwili.
Addressing the media after visiting the detained senior party member, PF Acting Secretary General Nickson Chilangwa said instead of unleashing arrests on political opponents, UPND should focus on finding ways to alleviate people’s sufferings.
Hon Chilangwa called on President Hakainde Hichilema to release Dr Kambwili and drop all the charges against him as he tipped the Head of State that citizens want better lives.
“It is totally unacceptable that the UPND government has elected to be doing this. My appeal to the UPND government is stop this, stop this nonsense. It’s not even acceptable, why are you doing this? You have got issues that you must be dealing with. You have got floods across the country, we’ve got food shortages across the country, the cost of living is going up by the day. The exchange rate is running away, the issue of fertilizer has not died, the issue of medicines in hospital has also not died, there are so many issues that we must be focusing on as a country,” he said.
“And on your own you don’t have the capacity to do it. You need every Zambian to participate in this particular discourse. I therefore call on President Hakainde Hichilema, is this what you want? Is this why you got the mandate from the Zambian people? To be doing that? Zambians want better lives and our responsibility as leaders of the opposition is to remind you on the promises you made to the Zambian people. Not to be arresting people left right and center.”
He said the President should just focus on providing leadership in the country and also allow the opposition leaders to provide checks and balances freely.
Meanwhile, PF National Chairperson for Information and Publicity Hon Raphael Nakacinda called on party members to unite and show solidarity to Dr Kambwili.
“We know that there has been an interest by individuals including Hon Kambwili to aspire for the position of president as indicated…But we shouldn’t politicize everything. When one of us is in a situation, we must drop whatever interests and stand in solidarity with one another,” he said.
“Some of the sentiments that have been coming from members of the Patriotic Front on blogs and other places are not necessary. Let us not allow the UPND to use us to whatever level to advance a narrative that we will only bring disunity in the party. Let’s all work towards unity and one of the ways to show unity is when one of us is going through situations.”
