The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says the law does not mandate it to declare presidential candidates assets, reports Asa Manda.

The ECZ has not announced the assets of candidates as always a week after filing of presidential nominations as always.

But UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema (HH) says it is understood.

He says ECZ is afraid of announcing President Edgar Lungu’s declared assets following the 2016 public reactions when his net-worth shot from K2 million to K21 million in one and half years.

”Last time they announced a certain candidate’s assets, his net-worth went from K2 million to over K20 million in 18 months while in public office!

“One can only imagine how much he has accumulated after an additional 5 years. We understand why you won’t announce,” said HH.
