ECZ DENIES IRREGULARITY CLAIMS IN LIMA PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has denied allegations of electoral irregularities raised by losing UPND Lima parliamentary candidate Lee Mukupa in his petition challenging the election of NRPUP’s Kelvin Kaunda.

Mukupa has petitioned the Lusaka High Court seeking to nullify Kaunda’s election as Member of Parliament for Lima Constituency following the August 13, 2026 general election.

Kaunda won the seat after garnering 22,760 votes, while Mukupa polled 8,041 votes.

However, in its response to the petition, the ECZ stated that it did not receive any complaint from Mukupa or his agents regarding the alleged irregularities during the electoral process.

The Commission therefore disputes the allegations and maintains that no formal complaints concerning the matters raised in the petition were lodged with it during the election, adding that Mukupa lost flawlessly.
