LUNGU’S OMISSION FROM INDEPENDENCE SUPPLEMENT QUESTIONED

Activist Thompson Luzendi has criticised the omission of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s portrait from the Daily Mail’s Independence Anniversary supplement marking Zambia’s 62nd independence anniversary.

Mr Luzendi said the exclusion raised concerns about editorial judgement and the preservation of the country’s political history, arguing that all former presidents deserved recognition in national historical publications.

He said Independence Day should unite Zambians regardless of political affiliation, warning against selective recognition of national leaders.

“You cannot preach national unity while practising historical exclusion,” Mr Luzendi stated, adding that Zambia’s history should reflect the contributions of all its former presidents.
