EFF Blasts United States Over New Visa Restrictions on South African Officials, Says Washington Has No Right to Dictate South Africa’s Laws While Calling on Government to Defend National Sovereignty and Strengthen Relations With BRICS and the Global South

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have strongly criticized the United States following the announcement of new visa restrictions targeting certain South African officials.

In a statement, the party said the move is part of a broader effort by Washington to pressure South Africa over its domestic and foreign policies, including land reform and transformation measures aimed at addressing inequalities created during colonialism and apartheid.

The EFF argued that South Africa has the right to determine its own laws and policies without interference from foreign governments. The party also accused the United States of applying double standards, claiming it is unfair for Washington to criticize South Africa while facing its own challenges related to race and human rights.

According to the statement, the EFF believes South Africa should continue strengthening ties with African countries, BRICS members and other nations in the Global South rather than relying on any single global power. The party further called on the South African government to respond firmly to the visa restrictions and protect the country’s sovereignty.

The statement also raised concerns about local organizations that lobby foreign governments on South African political issues, arguing that domestic disputes should be resolved within South Africa rather than through international pressure.

Do you agree with the EFF that South Africa should resist foreign pressure and deepen relations with BRICS and the Global South, or should the government prioritize repairing relations with the United States?
