EIZ INVESTIGATING INVOLVEMENT OF ITS MEMBERS IN CERTIFICATION OF THE SOCIETY BUSINESS PARK
The Engineering Institution of Zambia- EIZ- is investigating whether its members were part of Society Business Park’s certification for use.
EIZ Board Chairperson for Registration, MICHAEL NSEFU says disciplinary measures will be taken against any EIZ members, who will be found liable in connection with the certification.
Dr NSEFU says EIZ has taken interest in the condemned Society Business Park building in Lusaka’s Central Business District.
Speaking today when he featured on ZNBC’s Newsroom Analytica programme Dr NSEFU said that millions of dollars were invested into the building therefore it is a source of concern for the EIZ.
Yesterday, National Pensions Scheme Authority -NAPSA- Board Chairperson, SHIPANGO MUTELO announced the decision to shut down the building with immediate effect, until further notice.
Mr MUTELO said all the 66 tenants, including Hilton Hotel, have been given 10 days to vacate the building.

What next. How can it be demolished without disturbing the buildings around it? Is such a highly technical activity be accomplished by Zambian engineers and demolishing team? I doubt how it can be done.

EIZ is useless!!! That is why I stopped affiliation after just three years. It’s about old engineers boasting for being MDs of companies and lecturers dreaming out useless theories they google. It does nothing at all. It is a shame to us engineers. No one takes it seriously even government because engineers have failed…because they are easily compromised. Certain professions are not about getting rich but making a positive impact on the livelihoods of mankind using your natural intelligence. Not amassing wealth like and accountant or a lawyer. Let those small minds excite themselves with toys whilst you are solving real big issues and designing new ones. Those are the principals upon which we were solving calculus for several years of our lives…only to be disappointed that all principals of an engineer are thrown overboard in this animal called EIZ and next one is boasting about having the latest “Toyota land cruiser” by a Japanese called TOYODA when you can also force the government as EIZ (the one I envisaged ) to invest in equipment so that you can have a “Banda” car or “Hichilema” car tractor or “Nyambe” helicopter. So those engineers, members of EIZ who certified that death trap are products of the same unprofessional organization and they also certified other broken infrastructure in this country including roads, bridges, etc. It is a shame bring an engineer in Zambia. Kwati tamwasambilila yet you are the best brains with incredible academic records from childhood. Shame!!!! Bekateni and demand reforms in this useless organization which can’t even set basic standards in our country.
The investigation should be all encompassing extend to architects, contractors, procurement etc. Too much corruption in Zambia. Some people need to go to jail in order to send a clear message
