MAMA ESTHER LUNGU GRANTED APPEAL TO SUPREME COURT OVER REMAINS OF ZAMBIA’S LATE PRESIDENT

.. court finds merit in her application against the order of the Gauteng High Court which ruled that she should surrender to Government to repatriate the mortal remains of the late President

The Supreme Court of South Africa has granted an appeal by the family of the late Zambia’s Sixth President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu to challenge the decision of the Gauteng High Court to repatriate to Zambia the mortal remains of the deceased.

Earlier the High Court had ruled that the family surrender the body of President Lungu to the Government of the Republic for funeral and burial in Lusaka, Zambia as he was entitled to an official ceremony and state honours.

But the family has always argued that the matter of the funeral and the body was entirely upto the family to decide.

The permission to appeal was granted in an order signed by Acting Chief Registrat of the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) of South Africa, Z. V. D. Ntaka.

  1. As of now let her take the remains we see where those remains will take her twanaka, we still have a case of the skeleton kabanana lady here in Zambia whose case is similar only that she is poorer

  2. Poor reporting in tge article and yet the ORDR is clearly that the Court had franted “leave to appeal”. Meaning, that parties will now file their respective APPELLANTS HEADS OF ARGUMENTS and RESPONDENT’S HEADS OF ARGUMENTS for the Suprene Court to hear and determine the appeal. So, the Supreme Court will deliver a JUDGMENT after either for Lungu family as Appellants or Zambian Government as Respondents.

  3. You can not bribe supreme court judges. The fact that the courts have ascertained there is merit in her application says it all. That judge that ruled against her is facing various cases for accepting bribes.

In the meantime, the empty grave remains, waiting for its rightful occupant. And mark my words, the rightful person will be buried in that grave soon.

    • Boring indeed yet some people still salivate about “empty graves”. Let skeletons be buried anywhere or wherever. Corpses belong and must rest among the fellow dead and not among the Living.
