⚽ EU Takes Hard Stance Against FIFA’s Russia Football Return
The European Commission is pushing back hard against FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s suggestion to lift Russia’s ban from international football.
EU Sports Commissioner Glenn Micallef declared that “letting aggressors return to global football as if nothing happened ignores real security risks and deep pain caused by the war.” Russia has been suspended from FIFA competitions since February 2022 following the Ukraine invasion.
Meanwhile, FIFA argues for gradual reintegration, particularly for youth competitions, positioning sport as a space for neutrality beyond politics. Ukraine’s sports minister firmly opposes any Russian return to the world stage.
