FAZ SAYS KEITH MWEEMBA TO NO LONGER CHAIR NATIONAL TEAM TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya says president Keith Mapenzi will no longer chair the national team technical committee, succumbing to widespread demand for independence in the selection of Chipolopolo coaches and players.
The national team technical committee plays an important role in providing technical guidance on the national teams, including the recruitment, recommendation and monitoring of national team coaches and their performance.
Mweemba, has however, not named his successor but instead FAZ has announced another pile of appointments.
Chakatazya said a new chairperson of the national team technical committee will be appointed and announced in due course.
Chakatazya also announced the appointment of former Zambia U-23 Men’s National Team coach Peter Kaumba to the National Team Technical Committee.
Kaumba, who guided the Zambia U-23 Men’s National Team to the semi-finals of the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria, brings extensive football knowledge and experience to the committee.
The former Zambia international, who was named Best Winger at the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, joins a committee that includes former FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya, Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli, Patrick Phiri and Danny Kabwe.
Meanwhile, Chakatazya confirmed the appointment of FAZ Luapula Province Chairperson Hans Mujala Mweemba as Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee.
Former FIFA referee and COSAFA/CAF member physical instructor Bernard
Chabala has also been appointed to the committee.
Chakatazya said the appointment of Mweemba follows the departure of former Chairperson Gladys Lengwe.
“You will recall that Ms Gladys Lengwe stepped down as Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee last year. The Executive Committee has therefore appointed Mr Hans Mujala Mweemba as her successor. Mr Bernard Chabala has also been appointed as a member of the committee,” said Chakatazya.
This is according to the official FAZ communication department.
