FORMER MINISTER ATTRIBUTES STONING OF PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO INCREASED HUNGER LEVELS IN THE COUNTRY

By Nelson Zulu

Former Labour minister Fackson Shamenda says the stoning of President Hakainde Hichilema on Saturday in Chingola on the Copperbelt by an angry mob is due to increasing hunger levels in the country.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Shamenda says while the act is worrying, the government must ascertain the root cause and take a deep reflection on how it is running the affairs of the country.

He has noted that the incident marks an unprecedented development in the country’s political history and signals growing frustration among citizens and is urging the government to keenly listen to the concerns being raised and take corrective measures.

Mr. Shamenda also warns that such occurrences, if left unaddressed, could set a dangerous precedent for the future, especially that the country is already in the election mood.

Meanwhile, Former Defence minister Richwell Siamunene has blamed the Chingola incident to lack of preparedness from the President’s security personnel.

  1. Ba Shamenda mwalipwa imwe, you are still talking of hunger this time and yet we are entering this season with unprecedented number harvest of last season. Contrary what you are saying, in Zambia hunger is reducing instead of increasing as you are saying. What data are you using to come up with those allegations? I think you are better off to remain quite than giving those baseless allegations. The President doesn’t give food to people, people have to grow their own food, Bembas say; Insala nindiminwa. At your level, you are very senior politician and you know how the government runs. The Chingola incidence was just a security lapse which should not be allowed to occur again. The security personnel were sleeping on duty, how do you allow unruly hooligans to come near the president?

  2. Total misreading of the situation. These are illegal miners who want to continue illegal mining. There is also the issue of PF who have been denied the opportunity to run bus stops and markets. Nothing to generalise to the whole country.

  3. Exactly…people who have genuine need are the marketeers who were affect by the fires.
People are too accustomed to through wrong means. Where there is order and level field they can not thrive. So they cause confusion so that THEY can thrive while fueling illegal mining that takes advantage of the vulnerable through unsafe practices
