BREAKING NEWS: FORMER US ARMY MAJOR FACES PUBLIC EXECUTION BY FIRING SQUAD

9 October 2026

A former United States Army major, Nidal Malik Hasan, who was sentenced to death for killing 13 people in a mass shooting at Fort Hood military base in Texas in 2009, is reportedly facing execution by firing squad.

Hasan, a former military psychiatrist, was convicted in 2013 after opening fire on fellow soldiers on 5 November 2009, killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 others.

The case has attracted renewed attention following reports that his execution could be carried out publicly and broadcast live.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that the execution is scheduled for 3 December 2026 at 1:00 p.m. local time, at Fort Hood in Texas.

President Donald Trump approved the execution earlier this month following a recommendation from Hegseth.

The Pentagon has also confirmed plans to livestream the execution, although details of the broadcast have not yet been announced.

If carried out, it will be the first US military execution since 1961 and the first military execution by firing squad since 1945.

The announcement has sparked debate over the ethics of broadcasting executions, with legal experts questioning the implications of allowing the public to witness a prisoner being put to death.

Further legal challenges could still delay the execution.
