France Begins Military Deployment to Protect Saudi Arabia’s Strategic Oil Infrastructure

France has begun implementing its military support plan for Saudi Arabia, with measures aimed at protecting critical energy infrastructure, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux said on Thursday, October 15.

The deployment follows President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement in late September that France would send military personnel and air defense systems to help protect Yanbu, a strategic Red Sea port and a major hub for Saudi oil exports.

Yanbu has become increasingly important as regional tensions threaten energy infrastructure and shipping routes. The city is connected to Saudi Arabia’s eastern oil-producing regions through the East-West pipeline, allowing crude exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

Paris has not disclosed the number of personnel involved or the specific military equipment being deployed. The move is intended to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s defensive capabilities amid escalating regional security threats.
