MTONGA TELLS FARMERS: STOP DEPENDING ON FRA, SALE YOUR MAIZE SOMEWHERE ELSE
UPND member George Mtonga has advised farmers to explore alternative markets for their maize, saying the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) cannot buy the country’s entire maize stock due to limited storage capacity.
Mtonga said FRA is not the only market available to farmers, noting that farmers can currently sell their maize to private buyers and traders
“FRA is limited to storage. Even if they have the money to buy five million metric tonnes, they do not have the storage capacity to hold all the maize,” he said.
He urged farmers to explore international and regional markets for their maize, while allowing private traders to purchase the remaining stock after FRA completes its buying programme.
“After FRA is done buying, let traders buy the rest. They know where to take the maize,” Mtonga said.

This is the correct position. Why is the Party disowning it?
