GOVT CONFIRMS PRESENCE OF AFLATOXIN IN MEALIE MEAL, OVER 400 DOGS DIE

By Darius Choonya

The government has confirmed the presence of Aflatoxins in ten (10) mealie meal brands that has led to the death of over 400 dogs.

According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Elijah Muchima, out of 25 samples of maize meal collected, 13 tested positive for the harmful substance.

However, when asked to name the brands that contain the tainted maize meal and animal feed, Dr. Muchima could not do so because there are ongoing laboratory tests.

The Minister has not disclosed where the maize is coming from, claiming investigations are underway.

Aflatoxin is a family of toxins that are produced by certain fungi found in agricultural products such as maize, groundnuts and cotton seed which are poorly stored.

In humans, the toxin causes acute liver damage, liver cancer and also suppresses the immune system.

  1. Those dogs should be residing in mayandi…. Our dogs in the komboni are stronger. They eat sugar can and kandolo…. Those are fluffy dogs…..

  2. The minister must give the nation full data: the brands, test results showing drug contained and amount in each bag and the brands involved.
No more incompetence like was the case when he was at lands. He is lucky HH does not fire liabilities like him. So no need to be an alarmist. Be professional for once. No empty howlings like you were doing at lands.

  3. So until people start dying then you’ll say the brands? Elo were do you have 400 dogs that died? Some of these reports awesure!!!!

  4. Useless chap…Ba HH fire this man for making irresponible and alarming statements just to waste and put fear in people.
Then those that producing this mealie meal will cover up and wont be held accountable what a joker….

  5. So as government you have confirmed that there is hazardous maize on the market , why are you not telling us the actual brands involved so that we protect ourselves???

  6. The calibre of our leaders leaves much to be desired: Where were those 400 dogs tested? If dogs are victims to me it means even some of these dogs’ owners should be affected somehow because mealie meal is not only consumed by dogs only.Failing to name the mealie meal brands affected is being concerned more about protecting producers while leaving citizens at Satan’s mercy…..First protect consumers before suppliers of this deadly stuff
