HEGSETH RUSHES TO ISRAEL FOR SECRET TALKS WITH NETANYAHU AS IRAN CLOCK TICKS
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth slipped into Israel unannounced on Monday and sat down with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Ovda Air Base, where American fighter jets and refueling aircraft are already staged. The meeting, confirmed by Axios sources, took place eight days before Israelis head to the polls and amid active discussions in both capitals about resuming major combat operations against Iran.
Neither the Pentagon nor Netanyahu’s office has confirmed the visit. That silence is deliberate. Hegseth and Netanyahu are not conducting a photo-op. They are coordinating next steps against a regime that continues to rebuild what was previously degraded
President Trump endorsed Netanyahu the day before with language that left little room for interpretation. On Truth Social he called Netanyahu a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and “an even greater Partner for Peace in combating the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He added that Netanyahu has been “Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel itself,” and closed with a direct appeal to Israeli voters: “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Trump also made the stakes plain. If Israel chooses a different leader, he wrote, “America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so.”
Hegseth’s presence at Ovda, with U.S. combat assets already on the ground, signals that the administration is not waiting for perfect conditions or endless diplomacy. The base is not a conference center. It is a launch point. Combined with Trump’s explicit endorsement and Hegseth’s known preference for decisive action against Iran, the meeting reads as preparation, not speculation.
Israel’s election on October 27 will decide whether Netanyahu remains the partner Washington prefers for the next phase. Hegseth’s unannounced flight suggests the answer the administration wants is already clear.
