HON SILVIA MASEBO SHOULD CONSIDER WITHDRAWING THE PETITION.
Hon. Silvia Masebo has been in Parliament for many years and has undoubtedly played an important role in Zambia’s political landscape. Her experience and years of public service have earned her a position from which she can continue to shape and mentor the next generation of leaders.
It is against this background that I respectfully appeal to Hon. Masebo to consider withdrawing the petition she has filed against Hon. Anita Kamanga.
Petitions are a legitimate part of our democratic process, and every candidate has the right to seek legal redress. However, leadership is also about knowing when to step back and allow a new generation to take responsibility
Hon. Masebo has already served and contributed for many years. Perhaps the greatest demonstration of leadership at this stage would be to embrace mentorship rather than competition. Instead of spending energy contesting the emergence of younger leaders, she can use her vast experience to guide, advise and mentor them.
Hon. Anita Kamanga and other young leaders need experienced politicians who can help them grow—not necessarily political battles that keep experienced and emerging leaders divided.
Withdrawing the petition would not be a sign of weakness. It would be a powerful demonstration of confidence, maturity and statesmanship.
Hon. Masebo has an opportunity to leave an even greater legacy—not only as a politician who served for many years, but as a leader who helped prepare the next generation to serve Zambia.
Sometimes, the greatest leadership is knowing when to make room for those coming behind you.
