Houthis Claim Missile Strike on Saudi Typhoon Fighter Over Yemen’s Saada

Yemen’s Houthi movement claims it struck a Royal Saudi Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet with a surface-to-air missile over Saada Governorate in northern Yemen late on October 14.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the aircraft had taken off from Taif Air Base in western Saudi Arabia before being targeted in Saada’s airspace. He claimed the missile scored a direct hit, leaving the fighter jet at risk of crashing.

The announcement marks another major claim by the Houthis against Saudi military aircraft amid escalating hostilities between the two sides. In September, the group also claimed to have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter over Yemen’s Marib Governorate.

However, the latest statement does not independently establish that the Typhoon crashed. No independently verified wreckage or other conclusive evidence has confirmed the aircraft’s fate, and Saudi authorities have not issued an official response to the claim.

The incident adds to mounting tensions along the Saudi-Yemeni front as Houthi attacks and threats against Saudi targets continue.
