HOW IS HH AT PEACE WITH ECL UNBURIED? – MUNDUBILE WONDERS

BRIAN Mundubile has made an impassioned appeal to President Hakainde Hichilema to allow the family of late former President Edgar Lungu bury him, wondering how it has been possible for the head of State to be at peace with his predecessor in a morgue in South Africa seven months after his death.

Mr Mundubile says the continued delay in burying Mr Lungu has been such a painful, cruel and inhumane act against the family of the late head of State.
Mr Mundubile said it was heart breaking and disheartening that the country’s sixth President had remained unburied seven months after his death.

“It pains me deeply that my former boss, mentor, and big brother remains unburied seven months after his passing,” Mr Mundubile said.

Speaking both as a presidential aspirant for the 2026 elections and a former Cabinet minister, Mr Mundubile said the treatment of the late former president after leaving office was deeply troubling.

“I am very sad. Sad that the man who handed over power gracefully, who accepted defeat with dignity, has been treated with such cruelty by the current administration,” he said.

Mr Mundubile accused the UPND government of subjecting Mr Lungu to persecution after leaving office, including denying him access to specialised medical treatment abroad.

“After leaving office, President Lungu was abused by the UPND government. He was denied access to specialised treatment in South Africa. His terminal benefits were withdrawn. His state security was stripped away. His movements were restricted until he lived under virtual house arrest,” Mr Mundubile said.He added that even in death, the former president had not been accorded dignity.

“And when death finally claimed him, even then, indignity followed,” he said.
According to Mr Mundubile, late President Lungu’s widow, Esther Lungu, had wished to bury her husband in South Africa, where he had been receiving medical care, but was blocked by the State.

“His widow, our mother Mama Esther Lungu, sought to bury her husband in South Africa, where he had received care. Yet the Attorney General callously denied her that solemn right,” he said.

Mr Mundubile expressed profound sadness that as of January 5, 2026, former President Lungu’s mortal remains were still being kept in a mortuary freezer in Pretoria.

“As of January 5th, Edgar Chagwa Lungu remained frozen in a steel refrigerator in Pretoria. He spent his 69th birthday in a fridge. He spent Christmas in a fridge. He spent New Year’s in a fridge,” he said.

He questioned how long the family would be denied closure.

“How long must Madam Esther Lungu mourn? How long must a family be denied closure? What does this say about Zambia, about the UPND, about our humanity?” he asked.

Mr Mundubile explained that in Zambia’s 61 years of independence, no former president had ever been denied burial.

“In sixty-one years of independence, six Zambian presidents have died. None was frozen. None was denied burial. None was left hovering between Pretoria and Lusaka,” he said.

  1. Dull mundubile what has that got to do with HH, you PF pipo fighting for presidency are the ones who should be ashamed. Was HH related to ECL? Please think before uttering nonsense, shame upon all the PF family go and bury your master ba chimbwi

  2. Another useless thief making noise. The money you collected from the government for doing nothing is getting to your big head with that pala.Let the Lungu family come out clean and surrender the body to the government.HH beat you in 2021 and stopped you from looting or benefiting from public resources and this is the reason government should agree that HH does not attend the funeral. This Lungu family did not want HH to be president, wanted him dead long before 2021, even vowed to return him to prison after Lungu returned power to himself.Tell that family and the lawyer misleading them to surrender the body ku boma.We are not fools Mundubila,we know you kawalala. You are just fighting for your companies that depended on government contracts for survival

  3. An issue which comes with conditions is complicated and takes time to solve. In case of Lungu’s burial impasse, it would be better if all the conditions are dropped from the Lungu family. Otherwise HH has nothing to do with the delay, he is also just acting on behalf of the government and not in his personal capacity. How would HH feel if he allowed his predecessor to be without a dignified burial? That’s failing his duties as the current President. HH and the government already did their part, the grave is already there yawning for Lung’s body but it’s not forth coming. When the SA Court ruled that the body be brought to Zambia for burial, it was HH who suffered insults whilst still inside court. But today, the same person you insulted is the same person you are accusing of having delayed the burial, are you fair I wonder? You even failed to condemn the Sister to Lungu for the insults.

  4. Ok kambwili gave the law enforcement organs some tips.
We want to know the results from all the contracts mundubile companies
had and got paid for. They must be made public. Failure to doing so, we will sue the state. The figures mundubile is mentioning are probably correct: the true monies his companies were paid. He was doing big business with ECL and Faith Musonda as his partner. Then Faith caught the bigger fish for herself and Mundubile was cut off and left in the cold.
We have to know now how much he illegally collected. Faithis very uncomfortable to support Mundubile into state house because of what happened although ECL is gone

  5. The country is at peace. ECL’s death and burial is stale bread. No one could be bothered as we have moved on. Only ECL’s family that thinks they are hurting the president are still feeling the weight of their stupid decision of not wanting to bury ECL. I dont understand how they sleep at night in their right conscious mind knowing ECL’s body is still in a mogue? Living their lives without closure. I suppose the stolen dollars is what numbs their feelings. Sad

  6. Ba Mundubile, the country is at peace because we have moved on. Even Mr. Makebi Zulu, the Lungu family spokesman, has moved on. In case you are not aware, he is one of your opponents vying for the “PF” presidency.

Just imagine, even Mr. Makebi Zulu wants to take over the late Mr. Lungu’s position in “PF”. That is how far we have moved on.
