‘I WON’T ALLOW TERROR TO COME BACK -HH
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has warned that he will not allow Zambia to go back to the times of terror and abuse of citizens’ rights and freedoms.
President HICHILEMA says many Zambians died at the hands of politicians prior to the 2021 General elections and he will not allow that to come back.
He says GOD has given him a big heart to forgive and an opportunity to bring sanity to the country and create jobs but the president has warned the former ruling party not to take that for granted and misunderstand his tolerance.
Addressing the UPND Copperbelt Provincial Conference in Kitwe today, President HICHILEMA further warned that government will not be intimidated but will continue fighting corruption by following the law.
The President said the UPND’s duty is to take the country to a higher level from where it was left by the previous government.
He said his administration’s preoccupation is addressing challenges in education and other sectors and not politicking because many people would have died in Zambia had he allowed his members to avenge the terror they were subjected to.
President HICHILEMA said he has dedicated this year to addressing challenges around the disbursement of the Constituency Development Fund -CDF- and improving the welfare of citizens.
The Head of State noted that government will soon review the law on CDF and allow District Commissioners to sit in the CDF Committees.
President HICHILEMA said he will this year ensure that government and the ruling party work together so that members are given the power to follow up and check on CDF projects.
The President added that the ruling party will also employ programmes officers in constituencies to help the grassroots apply for empowerment funds under the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission -CEEC-.
He however urged UPND members on the Copperbelt not to allow the opposition to divide them by spreading all sorts of lies.
The President said he was shocked with lies that First Lady MUTINTA HICHILEMA is linked to the ownership of a mine in Mkushi yet she does not run any business in the family.
He advised party members to always dialogue over any challenges that members maybe faced with.
And President HICHILEMA said his struggle is now in sorting challenges with the Mines so that Zambians can easily do business.
He added that his administration is investing in Zambians and wants people to buy more of locally manufactured products.
Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA counseled party members to embrace new members from other parties and share the UPND principles.
And UPND Copperbelt Province Chairman ELISHA MATAMBO said the UPND managed to win elections despite the then ruling party having all machinery at their disposal and denying President HICHILEMA chance to campaign.
He said the ruling party is now controlling the Copperbelt because of having won a number of seats at all levels.
Mr. MATAMBO however acknowledged that the UPND had stopped mobilizing after winning elections but has since gone back to the grassroots and resumed mobilization after sorting out various challenges.
He applauded women and youths for having played a huge role in campaigning for the President in 2021.
