IAN KHAMA — WHO ARE YOU TO CALL HH A DICTATOR?

Zambians, let us talk!
Former Botswana President Ian Khama has called President Hakainde Hichilema “Africa’s newest dictator.”
According to Diamond Media and Daily Nation Zambia reports today, he asked Botswana’s Minister of International Relations in Ntlo Ya Dikgosi: “With hindsight, does the Minister regret that we attended the inauguration of Africa’s newest dictator in Zambia?”
My question is: WHO IS IAN KHAMA TO TALK ABOUT DICTATORSHIP?
Let me remind Zambians with FACTS:
1.When HH was in opposition, Khama refused to meet him. Governance analyst Farai Ruvanyathi confirmed Khama refused to meet Hichilema when he was opposition leader, despite later travelling to State House in Lusaka during Masisi administration. Today he wants to be champion of democracy? Where were you then?
2.During his own 10-year rule (2008-2018), there were documented concerns about concentration of executive power, pressure on journalists and restrictions affecting the San/Basarwa communities — Ruvanyathi raised this today. That is the record you want to use to teach Zambia?
3.TODAY Khama is NOT in exile. He lives in Botswana. He fled to South Africa in November 2021, returned on 13 September 2024, appeared in Gaborone court where warrant was set aside, and his 14 charges including illegal firearm possession were dropped in December 2024. He is in Serowe now, not a fugitive.
And here is the truth that pains him — Current Botswana President Duma Boko’s government has REJECTED Khama’s statement!
Botswana Minister of International Relations Dr Phenyo Butale defended attending HH’s inauguration, saying Botswana must maintain good neighbourly relations to promote democracy and cannot engage if it stays away.
Even Zambian analyst Farai Ruvanyathi has challenged Khama to substantiate his “dictator” label with specific evidence.
Zambia is a sovereign state! Annual inflation TODAY is 6.3% in October 2026, down from 11.9% in October 2025. Food inflation eased to 5.7%. Free education is real. Courts are independent — High Court set 5 November as last adjournment for Mundubile bail hearing.
If HH was a dictator, would the court allow 32-paragraph replies and constitutional bail applications?
Khama wants relevance! His influence ended when Botswana held elections on 30 October 2024 and Duma Boko won.
To President Duma Boko — we love Botswana! Thank you for defending Zambia! Your Minister spoke wisdom!
Zambians — let us defend our President! Whether you are UPND, PF, Tonse — today we must stand as Zambians!
