If Zumani truly seeks reconciliation, I’m ready to apologise – Lubinda
ACTING Patriotic Front (PF) president Given Lubinda has accused former presidential advisor Chris Zumani Zimba of orchestrating internal divisions within the PF and destabilising the opposition Tonse Alliance, warning that such actions threaten to betray the Zambian people’s faith in the coalition.
Lubinda alleged that Zumani’s recent conduct, including circulating a fake social media conversation between the two, was aimed at putting him at odds with PF members and weakening party cohesion.
He was speaking when he appeared on Prime TV programme dubbed ‘Matters Arising.’
“The effect of Zumani’s shenanigans is dividing the PF. I haven’t entered his head to understand his motive but what’s clear is that some members are siding with him instead of respecting the authority of the central committee. That’s a divisive activity,” he said.
Lubinda claimed that the divisions were not limited to internal party matters but extended to the broader Tonse Alliance, where he said there are now efforts to strip PF of its role as the anchor party, a key condition under which the PF agreed to participate in the alliance.
“There are talks that PF should not be the anchor party, yet that was the agreed position when we joined. All members of the alliance accepted that. Shifting from that now is not only dishonest, but it’s a betrayal of the trust Zambians placed in the alliance,” he charged.
Meanwhile, Lubinda addressed accusations of autocratic leadership, stating that he had allowed others to take lead in major decisions, including the recent resolutions to hold a PF convention before the end of November.
“I haven’t bulldozed anything, I have actually stepped back and allowed others to lead in decision-making. The decision to go to the convention was collected,” he said.
On the issue of reconciliation, Lubinda emphasised the importance of sincerity and mutual agreement, saying he is open to apologies if efforts are genuine.
“You cannot reconcile unless all parties are willing. If Zumani truly seeks reconciliation, I’m ready to apologise but only if it comes from a sincere heart.”
