Iran has confirmed the killing of General Jamshid Eshaghi in a joint US-Israeli airstrike.
Eshaghi was a brigadier general and head of budget and finance at Iran’s military headquarters.
He had been sanctioned by the US in 2025 for his involvement in a global network of Iranian oil shipments to China, the proceeds of which were allegedly used to finance militant groups such as Hamas, Houthis and Hezbollah.
According to the IRGC, Eshaghi was killed along with several members of his family, although further details of the incident were not released.
His death makes him one of the highest-ranking Iranian officials killed since the start of the war, with the US and Israel saying it has weakened Iran’s military leadership, although some analysts believe Iran is still capable of withstanding the attacks.
