BREAKING: Iran Offers to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Within Seven Days Under U.S. Conditions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States agrees to a set of conditions put forward by Iran.
Speaking Thursday during a meeting with a group of journalists and members of U.S. think tanks, Araghchi said Iran had conveyed the proposal through mediators, adding that the conditions remain the same as those discussed under the previous Islamabad agreement.
According to Araghchi, Tehran believes the arrangement should ideally be implemented before the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. He said the timing of any agreement now depends largely on Washington’s response.
The Iranian proposal comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of tensions between Iran and the United States, with the strategically vital waterway playing a major role in global energy shipments.
U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has indicated that an agreement could potentially be reached after the November elections.
The latest proposal suggests that Tehran and Washington remain divided not only over the terms of a possible deal, but also over when it should take effect.
