Iran Raises Threat of Regional War, Puts US Gulf Infrastructure Within Reach of Missile Retaliation

Iran is warning that any renewed US-Israeli military campaign could ignite a much wider regional conflict, threatening retaliation against American-linked military and strategic infrastructure across the Gulf.

Tehran has signalled that potential targets could extend far beyond military bases, including energy facilities, data centres, artificial intelligence infrastructure and critical undersea communications networks.

At the centre of the growing missile threat is Iran’s Fattah missile programme. Unveiled in 2023, the Fattah family is promoted by Tehran as a hypersonic weapon capable of manoeuvring at high speeds. Iran has claimed the original Fattah has a range of approximately 1,400 kilometres and can reach speeds of up to Mach 15.

The Fattah-2, unveiled later that year, was presented as a more advanced system with a manoeuvrable flight profile. However, Iran’s claims about its speed, accuracy and ability to penetrate advanced missile defences have not been independently verified in full.

The stakes extend across the Persian Gulf, where US military installations, regional energy infrastructure and strategic shipping routes could become exposed if hostilities resume.

A renewed confrontation would therefore risk expanding beyond a direct exchange between Iran, the United States and Israel, potentially drawing neighbouring Gulf states into a far broader security crisis.

The question is no longer limited to whether another strike will take place, but how far the consequences could spread if Iran follows through on its threats.
