Iran Targeted U.S. Radar Systems Before Striking Military Bases Across the Middle East, AP Investigation Finds

Iran reportedly adopted a military strategy of targeting American radar systems and air defence infrastructure before launching larger attacks against U.S. military installations across the Middle East, according to an investigation by the Associated Press (AP).

The report says Iran’s initial strikes focused on early-warning radar systems, air defence networks and aircraft hangars, potentially weakening American detection and defensive capabilities before subsequent attacks targeted warehouses, military accommodation facilities and other strategic infrastructure.

By August, more than 115 drone and missile strikes, attributed to Iran or Iran-backed militias, had reportedly damaged or destroyed facilities at 26 military sites hosting American equipment and personnel.

The resulting damage is estimated to have reached billions of dollars.

Two regional officials cited by AP said Washington was subsequently forced to relocate significant military assets away from the Persian Gulf, including aircraft, air defence systems and communications equipment.

The findings highlight Iran’s apparent emphasis on weakening American surveillance and defensive capabilities before expanding attacks against military infrastructure, potentially complicating the U.S. military presence across the region.
