Iran Threatens Undersea Internet Cables in Strait of Hormuz if US Launches New Attack

Iran has warned that undersea internet cables crossing the Strait of Hormuz could become targets if the United States or its allies launch further attacks on Iranian infrastructure.

Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) official, said US and allied assets could face retaliation if Iran’s infrastructure is attacked.

Separately, IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi highlighted seven major internet cables running beneath the strategic waterway and warned that new targets and weapons would be revealed.

The cables form part of the infrastructure carrying international data traffic between regions. Any disruption could affect internet connectivity and digital services, although the actual impact would depend on which cables were damaged and the availability of alternative routes.

The warning marks a potential expansion of the conflict beyond oil shipments and military targets to critical global communications infrastructure.
