Iran Vows to Unveil ‘Father of All Bombs’ as US Weighs Its GBU-43/B Superweapon
Iran says it is preparing to unveil a new weapon dubbed the “Father of All Bombs,” escalating its war of words with Washington amid reports that the United States is considering using its massive GBU-43/B bomb in a potential new strike campaign.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Hossein Mohebi announced the preparations on October 21 but provided no details about the weapon’s design, destructive power or operational readiness
The announcement follows reports that the Pentagon has developed contingency plans that could involve the GBU-43/B, known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” against Iranian targets if President Donald Trump authorizes renewed military action.
Weighing approximately 9,800 kilograms, the American GBU-43/B is one of the largest conventional non-nuclear bombs in the US arsenal. It was first used in combat in Afghanistan in 2017.
Iran has not demonstrated that its newly announced weapon matches or exceeds the American bomb’s capabilities. With the possibility of renewed US-Israeli strikes still under discussion, the rival claims underscore rising tensions between Tehran and Washington.
