Iran’s Sejjil Ballistic Missile in Focus as Tehran Raises Military Readiness Ahead of Possible New US Strikes

Iran’s Sejjil medium-range ballistic missile is drawing renewed attention as Tehran strengthens its military readiness amid growing warnings of possible renewed US and Israeli attacks following the November 3 US midterm elections

The Sejjil-2, also known as Ashoura, is one of Iran’s most significant ballistic missile systems. Powered by a two-stage solid-fuel engine, the road-mobile missile has an estimated range of approximately 2,000 kilometers and can carry a warhead weighing around 700 kilograms.

Unlike liquid-fueled missiles, its solid-propellant system reduces preparation requirements before launch, giving Iranian forces greater flexibility in moving and operating the weapon from mobile launch platforms.

The missile has reportedly been used against Israeli targets for the first time during Iran’s Operation True Promise IV in March 2026, highlighting its role in Tehran’s long-range strike capabilities.

Its significance has increased as Iran prepares for the possibility of another round of fighting. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered the armed forces to respond immediately to any attack, warning that retaliation would have no geographical restrictions.

Iranian military commanders have reported heightened readiness along the Persian Gulf coastline, around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, as well as along the country’s northwestern and southeastern borders.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly signaled the possibility of renewed military action against Iran. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on October 31 that Trump had not made a final decision but remained prepared to use military force if necessary.

Israel has also reportedly completed preparations for renewed offensive and defensive operations against Iran, while US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper has presented Trump with military options for possible further strikes.

The November 3 US midterm elections have emerged as a key point of concern for regional governments, with reports suggesting Washington could reconsider military action once voting concludes. The prolonged conflict and rising energy costs have also created domestic political pressure for Trump’s administration.

Despite the growing military preparations, diplomatic contacts involving Qatar, Washington and Tehran are continuing in an effort to prevent another escalation.

With Iran reinforcing its military readiness, Israel preparing for a possible new confrontation and Washington keeping military options on the table, the period surrounding the US midterm elections could become a critical test of whether the region moves toward renewed warfare or a diplomatic settlement.
