IRGC Claims 260 Enemy Aircraft Destroyed, Seven US Reconnaissance Drones Captured Intact as Iran Expands Underground Missile Production

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced major advances in its aerospace and military capabilities, claiming its air defense forces destroyed more than 260 enemy aircraft during recent conflicts and recovered seven US-made MQM-170 reconnaissance drones in nearly intact condition.

Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi, spokesperson for the IRGC, made the claims on November 7 during a press briefing marking the IRGC Aerospace Force’s commemorative week at the Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex in Tehran.

According to Mohebbi, the reported 260 aerial targets included advanced fighter aircraft such as the F-35, F-16, F-5 and F-18, alongside various reconnaissance and combat drones, including the MQ-1, RQ-4, Orbiter and Lucas platforms.

He also claimed Iranian forces had intercepted and recovered seven MQM-170 reconnaissance drones intact over the previous one to two weeks, describing the development as evidence of Iran’s growing electronic warfare and air defense capabilities.

A major focus of the announcement was Iran’s underground military infrastructure. Mohebbi said the IRGC had moved missile and drone production lines from surface facilities into underground complexes, allowing weapons manufacturing to continue despite aerial bombardment and military pressure.

He described the development of underground missile production facilities as a critical element of Iran’s strategy to maintain its weapons supply during wartime.

The IRGC spokesman also highlighted Iran’s expanding domestic defense industry, claiming the country had transformed from a traditional arms importer into a weapons producer and exporter. He cited the Arman missile, the 358 drone and the Khordad-3 air defense system as examples of military equipment being supplied to international markets.

Mohebbi further warned that Iran had developed additional military capabilities that have yet to be publicly revealed, promising that adversaries would face unexpected developments if another round of fighting erupts.

However, the IRGC’s claims of destroying more than 260 aircraft and recovering seven intact MQM-170 drones have not been independently verified. The actual number of aircraft losses and the extent of Iran’s reported technological achievements remain unclear.
