Issa Tchiroma Bakary Calls on Cameroon’s Security Forces to “Stand with the People”
In a powerful national address titled “Appeal to the Responsibility of Our Defense and Security Forces,” presidential candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary has urged members of Cameroon’s army and police to act with conscience and uphold their duty to protect the people amid rising post-election tensions.
Speaking days after the October 12, 2025 presidential election, Tchiroma claimed that widespread frustration and alleged electoral fraud have pushed Cameroonians “to the wall.” He warned that the reported manipulation of results could “plunge the nation into despair and uncertainty.”
Addressing the military directly, he said: “You are not the instruments of a man or a regime. You serve one master — the sovereign people.” He called on them to refuse “unjust orders” and not to “turn their weapons against their own brothers, sisters, parents, or children.”
Tchiroma emphasized that soldiers’ allegiance lies with the Constitution, not political figures, urging them to “stand on the side of truth, justice, and peace.” He added, “The moment has come to prove that Cameroon’s army is republican, dignified, and patriotic.”
The appeal comes as protests and reports of irregularities continue to emerge following the vote, with citizens demanding transparency and the “truth of the ballot box.”
