Jacob Zuma breaks silence after hospitalisation with bold message ahead of elections

Former South African president Jacob Zuma has made his first public appearance following weeks away from the spotlight.

The 84-year-old MK Party leader appeared in a video released on Friday night, 30 October.

He used the address to encourage South Africans to support his party in the 4 November local government elections.

His appearance marked his first public message since his hospitalisation earlier in October.

Zuma’s return comes at a crucial moment for the MK Party. Political parties are intensifying their campaigns ahead of Wednesday’s vote.

‘We are ready to take over’
Zuma began by acknowledging supporters who had expressed concern about his health during his absence.

He thanked those who had wished him well during his absence.

However, he quickly shifted his attention towards the upcoming municipal elections.

The former president urged voters to give the MK Party their support. He also expressed confidence in its ability to govern.

“We are ready to take over,” Zuma declared.

He argued that South Africans had faced difficult circumstances for many years.

Furthermore, he encouraged voters to use the elections to demand a different direction for the country.

His remarks provide a fresh boost to the MK Party’s campaign. The party is hoping to strengthen its position across several municipalities.

Zuma prepares for KwaMashu campaign rally
Meanwhile, Zuma is expected to return to the campaign trail on Sunday, 1 November.

He is scheduled to address MK Party supporters at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, north of Durban.

The rally could provide another opportunity for him to energise supporters before election day.

Zuma’s public absence followed his admission to hospital on 6 October.

The MK Party previously confirmed his hospitalisation, attributing it to fatigue.

The party later announced that he had returned home.

Consequently, his health kept him away from public campaigning during an important period.

The MK Party is contesting municipalities across South Africa.

One of its major political targets is eThekwini, where the party hopes to increase its influence.

Zuma’s latest appearance could therefore energise the party’s supporters as the final election preparations continue.
