JOHN SANGWA SAYS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CANNOT RESOLVE ZAMBIA’S CHALLENGES EVEN IF GIVEN A SECOND TERM

By Joseph Kaputula

Movement for National Restoration – MNR founder John Sangwa says President Hakainde Hichilema can never transform the nation even if he was to be given a second term of office.

Speaking when he featured on the Friday edition of “Let the People Talk” program on Phoenix FM, Mr. Sangwa emphasized that Zambians have lost trust in the Head of State and the UPND administration, alleging that the country has been divided.

He has also accused President Hichilema of not respecting the rule of law and the Constitution as evidenced in proceeding with the amendments.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sangwa has described the constitutional reform process as flawed, accusing members of the Technical Committee on Constitutional Reform of betraying the public by agreeing to serve on the consulting team.

He has also alleged that the amendment process is being designed to give the ruling UPND an electoral advantage in 2026, and called for a more inclusive and extended consultation period to ensure broad public participation.

  1. Even if we gave him 5 terms, Hakainde will fail. There was a good reason why we had rejected him 5 times previously. But he forced himself on us with numerous lies. Look at how pathetic he has become with his draconian cyber laws and Bill 7, eager to cling on to power. He can never fool us again though. We now know why we rejected him 5 times before.

    REJECT TRIBALISM, CORRUPTION AND OPPRESSION.

    VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.

  2. UNIP, MMD, PF failed the Citizens. UPND is viewed by others as having failed. Question: Why have all these Political Parties failed us, whether we had given them 5 years or 5 times? Perhaps we should introspect as a Nation for the ‘root cause’ of why our Political Parties fail us. What is clear in my mind is that whatever Political Party is voted into power next year, whether a new one or the current one, the current problems and new ones, the country is grappling with will persist, if not worsen.

  3. I no longer view Sangwa as a professional who depends on facts to drive a point home but as a politician seeking to discredit his opponents by all possible means, including malice.

  4. I do not agree on serve with “CANNOT RESOLVE ZAMBIA’S CHALLENGES EVEN IF GIVEN A SECOND TERM” because some gains, significant gains have been made in the first term. I agree the constitutional amendment is flawed because it is desperately being rushed for 2026 elections. The consulting team cannot disagree with anything. These are retired people in search of some income, not a national document.

  5. A President can’t work alone, but if people want to take his position they tend to wish him bad and don’t appreciate what ever good he can do.Ba Sangwa has become a political opportunist, so we know his ambitions period.

  6. John Sangwa’s assertion that President Hakainde Hichilema cannot resolve Zambia’s issues, even if given another chance, is unfounded and should be disregarded as mere rhetoric. John Sangwa ought to inform the nation how will address Zambia’s challenges if granted the authority to govern. Furthermore, as someone who claims to champion the rights of the underprivileged, he should clarify what contributions he made to uplift humanity during his legal practice. How many individuals did he represent in court pro bono, and what initiatives did he launch to foster community development at the grassroots level?

A person who could not manage and reconcile a marriage, resulting in divorce, should not be entrusted with national matters. Someone who cannot handle their home and marriage is a complete failure, incapable of enduring the pressures and significant responsibilities of addressing complex challenges.

Additionally, he is mistaken in his criticism of the proposed Constitutional Amendment process, claiming it should have included broader participation and consultation. What does he mean by inclusivity and wider consultation? John Sangwa, along with a handful of lawyers and some NGOs, is misguiding themselves and spreading misinformation. The best these ungrateful individuals and organizations can do is submit their opinions, as Zambia is greater than any one person.

The prevailing mindset among many Zambians is counterproductive. It is essential for Zambians to shift their perspectives; the UPND government is making significant efforts to provide citizens with viable alternatives to enhance their livelihoods, yet many remain accustomed to handouts and a dependency mentality. It is time to take responsibility and begin improving ourselves on an individual level.

  7. What about you who is not even in your first term? What are you going to solve? At we have seen Hakainde solving a lot of problems for the country but we haven’t seen you solving anything apart being impulsive. HH is a tested leader and many honest Zambians are blaming for coming late. Had HH come immediately after Mwanawasa or RB, things could have been very different for this country.
