KALABA TO SET UP COMMITTEE ON TEACHER POLICY

Citizens First (CF) party President Harry Kalaba has announced that his party will establish a Committee to develop a comprehensive CF Teacher Policy.

In a media statement today by CF Spokesperson Stanley Mhango, Mr Kalaba advanced that the policy shall address the legacy challenges facing teachers in Zambia.

Kalaba stated that the Committee will serve as an advocacy tool for engaging stakeholders on the conditions of service for over 300,000 teachers.

He added that teachers remain among the least appreciated, least motivated and least supported professionals in the country.

Kalaba observed that every Doctor, every President, every Engineer and every Farmer passed through the hands of a teacher.

He noted that the nation cannot talk about quality education or meaningful national development without a motivated teacher.

Kalaba said that under a CF Government, the teacher will be placed at the centre of national development.

He affirmed that Citizens First Party and his leadership are firmly committed to seeing a motivated, respected, well-supported and well-remunerated teacher.

He further stated that the policy will critically address low pay, poor housing, heavy workload, lack of teaching materials and slow promotions.

Kalaba emphasised that teachers deserve a strong voice in policy formulation and implementation.

He paid tribute to all teachers serving in classrooms, under trees, in rural outposts and in urban centres across Zambia.

This is contained in a statement issued by CF Presidential Media Coordinator Bangwe Naviley Chisenga.
