KAPALA EXPLAINS ROLE OF MP, URGES CHIFUNABULI SOUTH RESIDENTS TO HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE
CHIFUNABULI South Member of Parliament Peter Kapala has explained the responsibilities of a lawmaker, urging constituents to understand the role of an MP and hold him accountable throughout his term.
Mr Kapala said an MP’s primary responsibility was to represent constituents in the National Assembly by ensuring their concerns, challenges and aspirations were raised in Parliament.
He said MPs also participated in making laws and scrutinised Government policies, programmes and the use of public resources through parliamentary debates and committees.
“As your Member of Parliament for Chifunabuli South, I believe it is important for you to know what you should expect from me,” Mr Kapala said.
He said he would also participate in scrutinising and approving the national budget while advocating for a fair allocation of resources to Chifunabuli South.
Mr Kapala explained that although an MP did not personally construct roads, schools or health facilities, the lawmaker had a responsibility to lobby Government and other stakeholders to address development needs in the constituency.
“An MP does not personally build every road, school or health facility,” he said.
He said his priorities included improved roads and infrastructure, better health and education services, clean water and sanitation, support for agriculture and fishing, improved connectivity and empowerment programmes for women and young people.
Mr Kapala said development required collaboration with councillors, traditional leaders, Government departments, churches and community leaders.
He further emphasised the importance of maintaining regular engagement with constituents, saying their views should continue guiding his work beyond election periods.
“Leadership is not only about speaking–it is also about listening,” Mr Kapala said.
He said he represented every person in Chifunabuli South regardless of their political affiliation.
“Your voices and concerns must continue guiding our work throughout the term of office,” he said.
Mr Kapala said accountability remained central to his mandate, stressing that residents had elected him to represent their interests.
“You elected me to represent you, and you have the right to hold me accountable,” he said.
