KASONDE MWENDA ASKS HIGH COURT TO HALT MANDEVU POLL

Economic Freedom Fighters president Kasonde Mwenda has asked the High Court to suspend the Mandevu parliamentary election scheduled for November 5, challenging the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s handling of the electoral process.

Mwenda has applied for permission to seek judicial review of the commission’s decision to abandon the earlier election process and organise a fresh poll.

The application, stamped by the court on November 2, names the ECZ and the Attorney-General as respondents.

Mwenda argues that the commission exceeded its legal authority and exercised powers he contends belong to the High Court.

He is seeking a stay of the election while the court considers the legality of the commission’s decisions.

The filing represents Mwenda’s legal challenge; the report did not indicate that the court had granted an order stopping the poll.
