KAUNDA CONGRATULATES KAMPYONGO ON ELECTION AS LEADER OF OPPOSITION
National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Lima Constituency Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda has congratulated his Shiwang’andu counterpart, Stephen Kampyongo, on his election as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
Mr Kaunda said Mr Kampyongo’s election, as reflected in the party’s Caucus Minutes No. 10.3 following the NRPUP orientation meeting held on September 27, 2026, at Palmwood Lodge in Lusaka, demonstrated the confidence opposition MPs had placed in his leadership and parliamentary experience.
He said Mr Kampyongo brought extensive parliamentary experience to the position, having served as an MP for the past 15 years and having occupied positions in both the Executive and as a back bencher.
“His election is a demonstration of the confidence that opposition Members of Parliament have placed in his leadership, experience and ability to provide effective guidance within Parliament,” Mr Kaunda stated.
Mr Kaunda said Mr Kampyongo’s experience on both sides of the House had given him an understanding of government operations, parliamentary procedures and legislative processes.
“His age, experience, temperament and suitable leadership qualities further make him a most suitable candidate to guide the opposition ahead of the parliamentary procedures required for the formalisation of his position,” he stressed.
He expressed confidence that Mr Kampyongo would unite opposition MPs and strengthen parliamentary oversight.
“I am confident that Hon. Kampyongo will use his experience to unite opposition Members, strengthen parliamentary oversight and promote constructive debate in the National Assembly,” Mr Kaunda emphasised.
He pledged his support to Mr Kampyongo and wished him wisdom and success in his new responsibility.
“On behalf of the good people of Lima Constituency, I assure him of my support as he undertakes this important responsibility,” Mr Kaunda said.
