KREMLIN CALLS FOR NEW TRILATERAL PEACE NEGOTIATIONS
Moscow says it wants to resume trilateral peace talks with the United States and Ukraine, as diplomatic efforts to end the war continue.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia hopes to restart negotiations and reiterated Moscow’s stated preference for achieving the objectives of its so-called “special military operation” through peaceful means.
At the same time, the Kremlin is maintaining its hard-line position. Peskov said Russia still intends to achieve what it describes as its war aims and claimed that a Russian “victory” in Ukraine is drawing closer. He also accused Kyiv of lacking sufficient flexibility in negotiations.
Peskov repeated Moscow’s longstanding claim that Russia “did not start the conflict,” despite the fact that Russian forces launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The latest statement comes as Washington, Kyiv and Moscow explore ways to revive diplomatic contacts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also indicated that another round of trilateral negotiations could take place soon.
Whether the talks resume and whether the two sides can bridge their sharply conflicting positions remains uncertain.
