LAZ TO REPRESENT MUKANDILA OVER CANCELLED NRC & PASSPORT
The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is set to represent Tonse Alliance Secretary General Celestine Mukandila in a legal challenge over the cancellation of his National Registration Card and Zambian passport.
According to reports, Patrick Chulu Legal Practitioners have confirmed that they have been instructed to take up Mukandila’s case under the LAZ Pro Bono Scheme.
The development follows Government’s decision to cancel and invalidate Mukandila’s NRC and passport after authorities determined that the documents were allegedly obtained through fraud, false declaration and misrepresentation.
Mukandila, who was born in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo to a Zambian mother and Congolese father, has maintained that he is a Zambian citizen by descent.
He has challenged the cancellation, demanding that authorities provide the legal basis and evidence supporting the decision, while insisting that he is entitled to due process.
The matter now places the legality of the cancellation, Mukandila’s citizenship status and the procedures followed by authorities before the courts.
