Lungu was a bad president, but even bad people have rights- Hopewell Chinono

3

Hopewell Chinono Continues;

This is my last word on this sad issue. African leaders and their fanatic supporters are embarrassing.
Hichilema ran on a ticket to respect human rights. It is Lungu’s human right to choose who comes to his funeral and who presides over his burial.

Every African with a brain knows that many people have said, nhingi handimude panhamo yangu.

Lungu was now a private citizen, not a president. He was a bad president, but even bad people have rights.

Hakainde and his fanatics are showing that African leaders are all the same once they get into power. What is so hard about respecting the wishes of the dead?
Even if Zambia has a tradition to bury presidents at a particular place, it is Lungu’s right to choose otherwise, just as Mugabe did. We should never say, “Because Lungu treated HH this way, it is okay for his family not to be listened to.”

It is a fundamental principle of human rights that individuals, even former leaders, have the right to decide on matters concerning their own funeral arrangements and burial.

Human rights should be accorded to all, regardless of whether we like them or not. If I become president today, I would respect Mnangagwa’s rights, and simply take him to court to return the billions he took. After that, he can do what he wants.

Respecting the wishes of the deceased is a widely recognised ethical and cultural norm, regardless of political rivalries.

True leadership is shown not in seizing power over the dead, but in honouring their dignity and upholding the rights that define our shared humanity.

  1. Lungu did not consider those same rights of others and him and an olive branch has been extended to Lungu and the family the entire nation but the have chosen insult the entire nation all because of the state assets and money they have accumulated in the 7 years Lungu ruled Zambia. Like PF they don’t believe in the rule of law. It’s all clear for all to see. Probably Lungu was not even a Zambian that’s why they want to bury him SA. They will continue to make outrageous demands as a political gimmick to try embarass government and weaken it for political reasons. Nothing can be negotiated with them because they have no grievance and once the agree with government, they come back and claim government has broken the agreement. In there thick minds they fear to realise that government had bended backwards to accommodate their outrageous demands and without shame they turned around on the date the body was due to flown to Zambia. There reckless behaviour never considered the inconviniece and costs accrued by the South African government and the Zambian government to cancel the repatriation at the 11th hour. One can entertain the ideas that probably Lungu is not Zambian and that he hasn’t died and this is just his plan B. Who knows when you consider the Thabo Bester story! The SA government might need to investigate the Lungu death Saga including the rumour that he was admitted under a false name.

  2. We must stop calling ECL bad.He shall not be there to defend himself.We can remember his omissions yes, but we must realize he was just a human being.Let us not judge each other harshly.Presidents sometimes are blamed for what they didn’t do.The office they hold is above other offices, they stand vulnerable to blame when lower officers mess up things because they are the superiors.Thats why we must make laws that shall stand the taste of time.The laws that stop Presidents from making mistakes but instead have a fear and develop some sense of national protection.They have the people and a country whose interest they must protect.Some one can not get national resources and just starts distributing to his family members living the majority of the people in poverty .The PF taught us a lot things that must help us to shape the country to better standards.They were too arrogant, starbon, careless, rough, selfish, thieving, killers, law breakers, they could not advise each other.It was free for all and just too corrupt.We now have a good leader we must do right things for the good of the country.We must now forget about the PF.We must mind our big business the interest of the people of Zambia.PF is gone and is gone.The storm is over, we are in the new epoch.Work, and more work.
