SIMATA WELCOMES STREET VENDORS TO SELL OUTSIDE HIS HOUSE.
Losing Kabwata Independent Member of Parliament candidate and former Kamwala Ward Councillor Mainda Simata has welcomed street vendors to sell their merchandise outside his residence, insisting that they need the streets to survive.
Mr. Simata, who has criticised Lusaka Mayor Mwewa Chitambala over the removal of street vendors, says he is shocked that some people have seemingly lost sympathy for fellow Zambians struggling to earn a living.
According to Mr. Simata, street vendors should be allowed to return to the streets to sustain themselves and their families.
He has offered space outside his house to vendors willing to conduct their businesses there.
Meanwhile, Lusaka Mayor Mwewa Chitambala has challenged Mr. Simata to provide his residential address so that vendors can be directed to his home.
Mr. Chitambala says he will ensure that vendors selling second-hand clothes, chillies, pants and other merchandise using megaphones set up outside Mr. Simata’s residence day and night to test whether he will maintain his support for street vending.
In a sarcastic response, the Mayor wrote:
“Former Councillor offers all street vendors free space in front of his house. The councillor says anyone selling anything is welcome to sell in front of his house at all hours of the day”.
“Ba former Councillor, please post your physical home address so that our vendors bring ama bamba, impilipili and amasuku to sell in front of your house. You’re such a kind man. Thank you,” he stated.
