Murder Suspect Nathaniel Barthram Requests Air-Conditioned Cell.
Insiders close to the investigation disclosed that 34-year-old murder suspect Nathaniel Barthram left several police officers stunned when he politely requested to be moved to a cell with air conditioning.
His courteous appeal for improved detention conditions came amid a high-profile investigation into a chilling case of violence and tragedy.
Barthram, together with his wife the prominent Zambian farmer and entrepreneur Maria Zaloumis, popularly known as The Zed Farmer and three other individuals, currently in police custody in connection with the murder of 22 year old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele.
Kasengele died on August 17, 2025, at Kabwe Central Hospital.
He was rushed there by police officers after falling seriously ill while in custody, where he had been detained while he waited to be formally charged.
The arrest followed a disturbing report made by Ms. Zaloumis, who alleged that Kasengele had been hired by unknown persons to attack her with acid a harrowing accusation that sparked widespread concern and outrage.
However, the case took a darker and more complex turn after a postmortem examination conducted on August 20 revealed that Kasengele did not die from natural causes. The autopsy showed that he had suffered a blunt force head injury, brain contusion, and brain edema clear signs of severe trauma.
