OPPOSITION LACKS CLEAR ECONOMIC PLANS – CHANDA
Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, SUNDAY CHANDA, says opposition political leaders need to present credible and evidence-based economic alternatives ahead of the 2026 general election.
Mr. CHANDA observes that, so far, no opposition presidential hopeful has presented a fully developed economic plan that matches or effectively challenges the ruling party’s agenda across key sectors.
He says while several aspiring leaders have criticized Government on socio-economic issues, many of their proposals remain broad and lack implementation detail.
Mr. CHANDA says Zambians deserve more than political rhetoric, adding that credible and actionable policy alternatives are essential for meaningful national debate.
He explains that without clear opposition road-maps on employment, economic diversification, inflation and debt management, elections risk becoming contests of personality rather than policy.
The Kanchibiya lawmaker has also said competition of ideas strengthens democracy, as realistic policy options compel those in power to refine their own strategies for the benefit of citizens.
This is according to a statement issued by Mr. CHANDA.

Truly, the opposition is preoccupied with removal of UPND from power but no proper reasons advanced to that cause. It is practically difficult to chase a good dancer from the dance floor while the music is on chorus and the audience is well amused, amid ululations and whistling.HH and his team is working. The feelings that his Ministers will not win the elections may not be too correct. It is just unfortunate, the Ministers are too busy with more work and they can’t divide themselves to prudently attend to their constituencies, they are inundated and some constituencies are vast hence the call for delimitations.
Chanda you have impressed me. At least Zambians now know that while in PF, you were working under duress. You must now join the winning team in UPND. You stand a chance of landing a Ministerial Portfolio. You are the kind that should work with HH.
Think about it seriously because you will blend in well as a youthful leader to carry the tourch forward.
Hon Sunday Chanda, you seem to be kicking your self in the feet. You are the Opposition Patriotic Front Member of Parliament for Kanchibiya, the party which was in government from 2011 to 2021. Surely the Party under whose ticket you won the elections in 2021 had an Agenda, Political, Social and Economical ..
It’s this you should look at as we head into 2026, and how your party can improve on It’s ideological orientation, looking at the prevailing conditions.
Mr Michael Sata had the catch phrases, ” More Jobs , Lower Taxes , and More Money in your Pockets ” . Policies were then made to expand on the Strategic Direction of the party, and realize this vision. We had the Link Zambia 8000, and Pave Zambia 2000.. Infrastructure development ( Roads, Bridges, Hospitals, Clinics, houses etc)
The PF’s blue Print for Zambia was there..A mixed economy with state presence in key sectors of the economy. This remains a very attractive option for all political parties.. Resources should benefit the Zambians.
Before that, the MMD had a free Market Economy, Economic Liberalization . Government has no business in business.
But when you look at the UPND, and how they came into Power, what Ideological Orientation and policies did they market to the Zambians?
What I saw were promises from Mr Hakainde Hichilema…I will reduce Mealie Meal to K50. The Dollar will be K5.
When he became President he stumbled on CDF and other Social Programs. He found CDF , Cash for work, Social Cash Transfer, Free Education for Basic Education, Keeping the Girls in School Programs , and other social welfare programs.
The only thing he has done is to increase CDF , and raise the propaganda levels.
So Hon Sunday Chanda be fair with your self, there isn’t much in terms of ideological orientation , underlying Philosophy of Hakainde Hichilema ‘s approach to the Governannce. It is just a haphazard mixed bag of Populism, propaganda…and deals with his Investor friends.
Ask Simuuwe or the noisy bloggers on what the philosophy of UPND is…they will talk about NAPSA withdrawals, Cash for work, Imita Ufole, CDF , Cadres , Tribalism…. Completely lost like their Leader.
You are so bitter, heal pls.pf is not coming back bane keep on dreaming.Trying to wake up a dead horse is madness.Sunday Chanda is part of the government and is well informed better than you who is just making noise and lamenting
If the country had Idiots like you as our leaders, am very sure there was not going to be a country called Zambia
