Zimbabwean liberation war veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, popularly known as Cde Bombshell, has died, according to a statement by his family. He passed away on Friday morning at a cardiac hospital in South Africa.
Geza gained public attention in 2025 after dramatically breaking ranks with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, whom he had previously supported. Through a series of social media broadcasts, he accused the president and senior officials of widespread corruption and called for mass protests demanding Mnangagwa’s resignation. Unbeknown to the public at the time, Geza was battling cancer.
As authorities moved to charge him with treason, he fled to South Africa. From exile, he urged Zimbabweans to engage in nationwide strikes aimed at forcing political change. However, the protests lost momentum after security forces were deployed and dozens of people were arrested.
In one of his final messages to supporters, Geza revealed he was in severe pain and nearing the end of his life. “I am in pain that I might not see the new Zimbabwe after Emmerson, but I take solace in the hope that you will continue the faith for a free and prosperous nation, the Zimbabwe I fiercely fought for,” he said.

Sad , Zimbabwe you’ve lost a voice
Manangagwa had him killed
Nerve agent issues here no doubt.
