UPND LEADERS, WHERE ARE THEY?

UPND LEADERS, WHERE ARE THEY?

By Col. Hamwiinde Munamunungu(Rtd)

I have seen a lot of concern on the conduct of most UPND members especially their leaders who think that the 2021 General Elections are already open to be in favor of their Party. That is a fallacy and dangerous and must not be entertained at such a time.

Everyday it’s HH and nobody else, everyone else seems to be in hibernation at this critical hour when it’s most necessary to draw battle lines. Occasional token and distant voices come from leaders like, Mutale Nalumango, Percy Chanda, Garry Nkombo, Jack Mwiimbu, Conellius Mweetwa, Patrick Mucheleka and Gilbert Liswaniso. This is too little and may very soon come too late.

Where are the members of the equivalent of the Politburo, the National Management Committee? Why so quite and yet occupying important political offices which must be the engine that drives the Party? Is it because all were just appointed and not elected by popular vote? Isn’t this wake up call to the intraparty electorates who must take charge of the course of the ship?

I was surprised to hear that Gabriel Namulambe was a member of the National Management Committee and yet never heard of his voice except upon resignation. I suspect we have a lot of Namulambes who will only be heard upon resignation or retirement.

This is grossly unfair to both HH who appointed them and to the general membership of the Party that are crying for change of government. These are the individuals who have weakened the Party and are just waiting on the wings like vultures to claim victory at the eleventh hour. These are the people that will claim for governmental offices if the Party is blessed to win the Elections. That’s unacceptable but it reveals much of how the party is being led at the helm. Otherwise what the hell are they waiting for and who the hell do they think they are if not political movers?

These are the same people working underground peddling lies against those who have offered themselves to campaign and stand for the Party like the very committed Ms Lily Mutambo. Lily has the capacity and the drive to canvas for the Party and for herself. Already she has made inroads in Munali constituency in building the image of the Party and herself.

Unless these men and women give in to hard work for the Party, I fear that the UPND should forget about 2021. My appeal is that the sooner the Party Congress comes the better. Let us get committed young men and women to rebrand the image of the party as soon as possible. They are so many and waiting in the wings, let them be allowed in, there’s no time to waste.

OF A BROODING AND CRESTFALLEN PILGRIM

OF A BROODING AND CRESTFALLEN PILGRIM
My humble and well recognized and honored Pilgrim, I hold you in higher esteem as a leader, a father and as my former Vice president of the mighty UPND.

Sincerity and truth are what you require to heal from your distressed experience with the mighty UPND and president Hakainde Hichilema. Aiding the Patriotic Front PF to assassinate the character of president Hakainde Hichilema will not help Zambia in any way.
What Zambia wants is a man of vision who will be highly responsive to the needs of the people not a man who strives to bring other people down because of jealous, personal grudges and ethnicity variation.

What’s the point of being wise when the nation is not able to benefit from your wisdom? The same can be asked about knowledge that’s never shared to benefit those that need it the most.

Surely, of what benefit is a wise man who chooses to keep his wisdom, knowledge and experience to himself when his country is in need of such canny and discerning men?

Pilgrim, the point is you can’t keep gossiping and fighting Hakainde Hichilema in riddles on Facebook for allegedly expelling you from the party.

You can’t also relentlessly keep claiming of being a Pilgrim when the least we get from you are misjudgements and invasion of characters. You must get over your differences with UPND and personal grudges against Hakainde Hichilema. We have a Zambia to save from the hands of these corrupt criminals.

If you’re better than HH, or can do better than him, or that you’re the right person to rule Zambia, form your own political party, or go back to UPND and work with HH or join PF so that you can help to resuscitate the dying Patriotic Front PF.

Your wisdom, knowledge and experience is badly needed to ameliorate bad governance and to curtail the outgrowing number of corrupt, selfish and ruthless political vampires who’re masquerading as leaders.

I believe there’s something very substantial that you can do for the country other than attacking individuals and injuring their reputations because of the grievances you have.

Kim and Kanye West ‘jet to remote fortress in the Caribbean in FINAL bid to save their marriage’

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reportedly jetted to the Caribbean in a final desperate bid to save their marriage.

Sources claim the couple are holed up in what can only be described as a ‘fortress’ with their four children, as their relationship hangs by a thread following a series of public meltdowns.

On board the flight that took off from Cody, Wyoming over the weekend, were the couple’s four children and, according to The Sun Online, a pastor that married the duo.

“It’s more of a chance for them to reconnect away from the chaos of Wyoming, the hangers on who surround Kanye and the audience of their entourage.” the outlet revealed.

“Kim wanted to bring her mum but didn’t want Kanye to feel like he was being pressured. She’s planning to fly Rich Wilkerson Jnr, their pastor who married them, out with his wife – or if Kanye is resistant, to video call him. He’s someone Kanye trusts. He’s been a constant in Kim and Kanye’s lives and he’s a friend of the family. Kim is hoping an intervention will help Kanye.”

The Wests’ trip to the island, described as a “fortress” is thought to be an ideal way for the family to spend quality time, but also it is said to be a “make or break” vacation for Kanye and Kim’s marriage.

“The couple knows they need quality time with their kids and no other outside voices or people,” an insider told ET. “Kim knows that Kanye being with his family will be good for him.”

Kim is ready to save their marriage for the sake of their children, according to PEOPLE.

“Kanye suggested that they take a family trip together and Kim agreed. She wants to do everything she can to save her marriage. It’s all very complicated though.

“Kim wants him to get proper help and Kanye still doesn’t want to. Kim is just taking things day by day right now. She isn’t sure if their marriage can be saved, but she is willing to keep trying for their kids,” a source told the outlet.

Mnangagwa foils a coup attempt in Zimbabwe

HARARE – The provincial Secretary for Administration in the Midlands youth league Justice Mayor Wadyajena has alleged that there was a foiled coup attempt against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Wadyajena posted on his twitter handle that: His Excellency Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is still President of Zimbabwe!

Remember these ten words.

He won’t be removed by keyboard activism. A lot of mischief out there & in coming days celebs & the world will learn about a serious & treasonous FAILED attempted power grab.

This statement comes at a time when members of ZANU PF are calling for an extraordinary Congress to recall President Mnangagwa

Last week, according to reports, Mnangagwa confronted internal Zanu PF opponents on with the help of his sidekick, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) boss Isaac Moyo.

The embattled 77-year-old leader used a Zanu PF politburo meeting in Harare to accuse some Zanu PF officials of plotting against him by conspiring with the opposition, while promoting the ambitions of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to take over.

In a stark demonstration of the conflation between state institutions and Zanu PF, Mnangagwa summoned Moyo to present an “intelligence report” about a purported plot against him, believed to have been commissioned by state security minister Owen Mudha Ncube.

High-level sources revealed that Moyo turned up with posters allegedly printed ahead of folied anti-government protests. The posters denounced Mnangagwa, while extolling his deputy.

Moyo, however, concluded that the plot was being spearheaded by Politburo member Claveria Chizema (secretary for health, child care and the elderly) and former Mbare MP and businessman Tendai Savanhu.

“Moyo accused Chizema and Savanhu of organising and funding the planned anti-government protests on Friday,” a source briefed on the proceedings said.

“It was styled like Jonathan Moyo’s ‘Blue Ocean’ presentation in July 2017, when the target then was Mnangagwa. It was quite theatrical, but of a lesser quality. Placards were presented, allegedly seized from all 10 provinces indicating support for Chiwenga. Moyo told the Politburo the placards were allegedly going to be paraded on July 31,” the source said.

The target of Moyo’s presentation, prepared allegedly at the instigation of Mnangagwa, was Chiwenga, the 63-year-old former army general who led a 2017 military coup that ousted long-time ruler Robert Mugabe.

Chiwenga sat silently listening to the presentation.

Our source revealed: “The plan appeared to send out a message to Chiwenga that we are watching you, but they were either too cowardly to confront him or their strategy was always to just try and unnerve him.

“Moyo told the Politburo they had looked into Chiwenga and found him to be a most loyal cadre supportive of Mnangagwa’s leadership, effectively isolating Chizema and Savanhu. There was no assertive position on Savanhu taken by the Politburo. Instead, all guns were aimed at Chizema who was identified as the kingpin of the plot.”

Chiwenga is reportedly growing impatient with Mnangagwa, who squandered international goodwill following the military coup by failing to implement reforms and nurturing corruption by his family and associates.

The vice president and his supporters fear rising public anger against the regime could engulf them, and are reportedly keen to see Mnangagwa’s back even before his five-year term – controversially secured in a disputed election in 2018 – is over.

Zanu PF spokesman Patrick Chinamasa told journalists after the meeting that Chizema had been suspended for “dereliction of duty”, he charged for failing to report to the Zanu PF security department or the CIO that anti-Mnangagwa posters had been delivered to her home.

Mnangagwa fears that Friday’s protests against corruption and poverty could unseat his government, and he has accused organisers of being “terrorists” planning an “insurrection” while vowing a strong response by security forces.

Police last week arrested Jacob Ngarivhume, the main organiser of the protests, and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono after accusing them of inciting public violence which the two men deny.

Over a dozen opposition activists and unionists have gone into hiding to escape police attempts to arrest them before July 31.

Mnangagwa has reportedly instructed state security minister Ncube to put in place plans to shut down the internet on Friday, the second time this would be done in two years after a similar blackout during protests sparked by fuel price increases in January last year.- thezimbabwenewslive

98% Privatisation Of Banks And How The PF Is Giving Out Millions Every Month To The Outside World

98% PRIVATISATION OF BANKS AND HOW THE PF IS GIVING OUT MILLIONS EVERY MONTH TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD.

James Kasanda Musendeka Lukuku, RPP President.

Kenneth Kaunda maintained a strong local bank base to the extent of establishing the Lima Bank for agriculture transactions only.

MMD maintained indigenous Banks such as the Covmont Bank, National Servings and Credit Bank, Investrust, Finance Bank and Zanaco. Ngandu Magande however sold some Zanaco Shares to the Robo Bank.

Now this is the analysis of the current Banking sector in Zambia which is making us lose billions every month while some backward people are busy out there preaching fish farming and salaula distribution.

Access Bank Zambia Ltd – Nigeria

First Capital Bank – Malawi

Atlas Mara – British Virginia

Bank of China – China

Absa – South Africa

Cavmont Bank – Capricorn IH, Namibia

Citi Bank – New York, USA

Eco Bank – West Africa

First Alliance Bank – India

FNB – South Africa

Indo-Zambia – India

Stanbic Bank – South Africa

Standard Chartered – Britain

UBA – Nigeria

Zanaco – Arise BV* of South Africa

ZICB – Zambia

Investrust – Zambia

ZICB shall be transformed into the greatest Bank in our Country because it is premised on industrialisation and commercialisation. I will advise President HH to implement this once we form government in 2021.

Now it’s only Zambia and absolutely no other Country with such a stupid and nonsensical financial market. The huge Zambian GDP is passing through foreign Banks living billions in bank charges and other Chargeables.

This is very painful but I don’t think we can expect much from a cabinet that for the first time in the history of the our country, has exposed pornographic ministers.

BRACE FOR MORE DRAMA, SCANDALS …and plunder as PF vultures intensify scramble for remaining resources – Sejani

0

ACKSON Sejani has implored people to brace for more drama from PF as the country goes to the polls next year.

Commenting on President Edgar Lungu’s dismissal of general education minister David Mabumba while leaving out other offenders in his Cabinet, the former local government minister and Mapatizya member of parliament said more scandals would be revealed as time approached.

In a video that went viral, Mabumba appeared totally naked and was playing with is manhood.

“The Zambian people must brace themselves for more drama as we move into 2021. More scandals will be revealed as well [as] more plunder of our resources as these vultures in PF will intensify their scramble for the remaining resources of our country,” he said. “All this scramble is just to feed their morbid desires. You will not hear Christians for Lungu say anything. By the way, I understand the President has thanked David Mabumba for the services he rendered to the country and I wonder which services is the President referring to?”

Sejani asked President Lungu to explain why he could not dismiss chiefs and traditional affairs minister Lawrence Sichalwe who last year posted pornography in a WhatsApp group.

He said Sichalwe has been left to function as minister ever since.

“David Mabumba has been swiftly fired but Lawrence Sichalwe was not fired or even cautioned for posting pornographic material because Edgar Lungu applies the law selectively in Zambia today. Under Mr Lungu there are two or three types of laws. There are laws for PF and laws for the opposition,” Sejani said. “Within PF there are laws for those who are close to Mr Lungu and there are laws for those who may not be very close to him. Under this system of administering the law you are very vulnerable if you are opposition or you are not close to him, or if you are not in possession of damaging information on the President. This is the reason nothing happened to Lawrence Sichalwe. It is the same reason why you will not hear those self-appointed moralists calling themselves Christians for Lungu say nothing on transgressions involving those close to power.”

He said President Lungu was using the law selectively, adding that, “this is the same system that found Emerine Kabanshi guilty before proven innocent and therefore she was instantly fired”.

“Strangely, Ronald Chitotela was considered innocent until proven guilty and therefore remained in office while facing corruption charges. If this is the new normal under Mr Lungu, why should anybody be surprised to see Chilufya Chitalu remain in office while facing these serious cases but Lusaka and Kitwe councils are suspended on mere suspicions of illegal land dealings?” Sejani asked. “When we say Lungu has failed to run the country this is what we mean. I don’t know what other proof somebody will be waiting for. Imagine if what David Mabumba did was done by the opposition; imagine the amount of noise coming from all corners of the Republic. First, the Christians for Lungu would be competing to see who produces the heaviest condemnation and declaring that the opposition is not fit to preside over national affairs. Sunday service sermons would be on the same.”

He said next in line would be surrogate non-governmental organisations and traditional leaders lined up to condemn the opposition.

Sejani said because such transgressions were happening in PF, all their surrogate groups remained quiet.

“Even that so-called Ministry of [National Guidance and] Religious Affairs is loudly silent. What an absolute disgrace of a ministry! This is the ministry that turned away that South African socialite, Zodwa Wabantu, on mere suspicion that she does not wear pants. But here in Zambia, she has allowed her Christian government to elevate pornography to a national pastime,” said Sejani. “This bunch of leaders is not fit to rule Zambia. By this action against Mr Mabumba while tolerating other transgressions like corruption, Mr Lungu is telling us that corruption, which actually kills people, is a less evil than pornography. Another example of failure of leadership!”

Clock ticking fast for PF to leave office – Sialubalo

0

[By Ben Mbangu in Sinazongwe]

SINAZONGWE UPND member of parliament Gift Sialubalo says no one must give up because the clock is fast ticking for the PF government to leave office in 2021.

Donating salt to women in Malima ward over the weekend, Sialubalo said there was no need for any Zambian to lose hope of a better future because the UPND was determined to form government next year.

“God will soon wipe the tears of the oppressed hence no one must give up because the clock is ticking faster for the PF government to leave office in 2021. Let us just remain strong and not to lose hope despite our anger over high levels of corruption and poverty because 2021 is around the corner,” he said.

Sialubalo pointed out that the power to liberate the country from injustice, poverty and poor leadership lay in the hands of the same Zambians who were subjected to a lot of hardships now.

He disclosed that the UPND as a party under the leadership of Hakainde Hichilema was available to those with a dream of living in a better Zambia.

“As citizens we must show concern and worry about the rampant corruption, increased mere political rhetoric at the expense of effective service delivery and, against the shrinking democratic space and not propaganda and tribal divisions being promoted by the PF,” he said.

And Sialubalo urged his constituents to join other oppressed Zambians to teach the PF government a lesson in next year’s general elections for treating them as second class citizens in their own country.

“If it is you people of Sinazongwe, you should never forgive this government for abandoning you and breaking your hearts by failing to honour its promise to work on the Bottom Road and Batoka-Maamba Road. Why should you people of Sinazongwe be punished for exercising your constitutional right of voting for a party of your choice?” he wondered.

Sialubalo disclosed that despite Sinazongwe district’s immense contribution to the country’s economy through strategic economic areas like mining, thermos-electricity generation and fishing, nothing had been done to improve its road infrastructure.

“It is painful to be a Sinazongwe resident because you have to endure the pain of seeing your natural resources being exploited, yet government is not appreciating the area by developing it,” Sialubalo said. “Talk of Bottom Road, it just ended in Gwembe. Batoka-Maamba road is in a deplorable state, yet trucks carrying coal from Maamba pass there on a daily basis. Sinazeze modern market has become a white elephant.”

And Sinazongwe UPND district vice-youth chairperson for administration Costern Sikatyanka said young people in the area were disappointed with the manner in which the PF-led government ignored their appeals for development.

“The Batoka-Maamba road has killed a lot of people through accidents. The people of Sinazongwe have cried for many years to the government to work on the road which is now a death-trap but government is not listening. We don’t know what wrong we have done to this government to be punished in this manner,” said Sikatyanka.

But Road Development Agency corporate affairs and communications director Masuzyo Ndhlovu said the government through the agency had plans to finance the Batoka-Maamba road project once funds were secured from the Treasury.

CORRUPTION ACCUSED HEALTH MINISTER CHITALU CHILUFYA WORTH OVER K22 MILLION, ACC TELLS COURT

By Watch Reporter

Trial in the matter in which Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya is charged with four counts of possession of properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime has finally commenced in the Lusaka Magistrates Court.

Testifying in the matter, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation officer Chipili Chipampe Manda, 34 years old told Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale that Dr. Chilufya’s earnings were in excess of K22 million.

Manda said Dr Chilufya had in excess of K22 million as earnings from November 2013 to February 2020.

He said this was according to information obtained from National Assembly, Payroll Management and Establishment Control (PMEC) and Henry Courtyard Limited.

Manda said a team was instituted to investigate Dr Chilufya after a report bordering on allegations that he possessed properties in Zambia and Dubai which were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime was lodged by an unanimous source.

He said after he established that Dr Chilufya possessed US$200,000 which was used to purchase 6,000 shares in Samfya Marines and Tourism Services Limited from Den Daas Investment Zambia, K270,000 cash which was used to purchase another 2,000 shares in Samfya Marines, Lot No. 365/366 also known as Spark Guest House situated in Mansa and a passenger boat also known as Transport 32 from Smart Own FZE of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, he endeavored to establish whether the accused had the financial capacity from his known legitimate income to acquire the stated properties in question and that he established that he was a Health Minister and also a Member of Parliament for Mansa Central.

Manda said the investigators requested for Dr Chilufya’s emoluments from National Assembly and PMEC and that ACC did receive documents detailing the payments which Dr Chilufya had received from November 2013 to February 2010 from National Assembly and PMEC.

Manda said further, investigations revealed that Dr Chilufya had stake in various companies and was director and shareholder in Henry Courtyard Limited.

He named Dr Chilufya’s other companies as Henry Courtyard Construction and Hardware, Henry Courtyard Farms and Henry Courtyard Travels and Tours.

Manda explained that Dr, Chilufya was also a shareholder in Samfya Marines.

“Having looked at the earnings of Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya from the information we obtained from the National Assembly, his earnings totalled over K7 million and for earnings related to documents collected from PMEC, earnings were slightly over K3 million. Further, I assessed financial information, in this case, bank statements from Henry Courtyard Limited where Honourable Dr Chitalu Chilufya is a shareholder and director, different bank statements were obtained and these banks are Zanaco, Cavmont Bank, Atlas Mara and Investrust Bank, which Henry Courtyard has accounts with,” he said.

Manda said Dr Chilufya’s Henry Courtyard was in excess of K12 million.

Hearing continues tomorrow.

United States imposes Mnangagwa adviser Kudakwashe Tagwirei on sanctions list

WASHINGTON, United States – The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on Sakunda Holdings and businessman Kudakwashe Regimond Tagwirei, blacklisting one of the most prominent business people in Zimbabwe and an adviser to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), in a statement, said the 51-year-old was designated for providing support to the leadership of the government of Zimbabwe, as well as Sakunda Holdings for being owned or controlled by Tagwirei.

“Tagwirei and other Zimbabwean elites have derailed economic development and harmed the Zimbabwean people through corruption,” said Deputy Secretary Justin G. Muzinich.

“The United States supports the economic well-being of the Zimbabwean people and will target repressive and corrupt acts and graft by Zimbabwean politicians and their financiers.”

OPAC said Tagwirei has utilised his relationships with top government officials to gain state contracts and receive favoured access to hard currency, including U.S. dollars.

“In turn, Tagwirei has provided high priced items, such as expensive cars, to senior-level Zimbabwean government officials. Tagwirei has used a combination of opaque business dealings and his ongoing relationship with President Mnangagwa to grow his business empire dramatically and rake in millions of U.S. dollars,” OPAC said in a statement.

Government audit reports prompted a 2019 parliamentary inquiry into whether public funds were misappropriated, revealing the government had failed to account for about US$3 billion disbursed under the Command Agriculture programme, a state farm subsidy championed by President Mnangagwa and largely financed by Sakunda Holdings.

Tagwirei also recently took over five state-owned gold mines and is linked to a multi-million-dollar tender to supply public transport buses for the state owned bus company, ZUPCO, which he won without going to tender.

The U.S. government said Tagwirei was targeted for his financial links with Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga, who were slapped with sanctions in March 2003 and November 2005 respectively, and remain on OFAC’s List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons.

Tagwirei “materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, logistical, or technical support for, or goods or services in support of, the government of Zimbabwe, any senior official thereof, or any person whose property and interests in property are blocked” while Sakunda Holdings was designated “for being owned or controlled by, or for having acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, Tagwirei.”

Additionally, OFAC concurrently removed sanctions on the recently-deceased John Bredenkamp and 20 companies owned or controlled by Bredenkamp: Alpha International (Private) Ltd., Breco (Asia Pacific) Ltd., Breco (Eastern Europe) Ltd., Breco (South Africa) Ltd., Breco (U.K.) Ltd., Breco Group, Breco International, Breco Nominees Ltd., Breco Services Ltd., Corybantes Ltd., Echo Delta Holdings Ltd., Kababankola Mining Company, Masters International Ltd., Masters International, Inc., Piedmont (UK) Limited, Raceview Enterprises, Scottlee Holdings (Pvt) Ltd., Scottlee Resorts, Timpani Ltd., and Tremalt Ltd.

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said the action on Tagwirei was deliberately time to mark the second-year anniversary of an August 1 crackdown by security forces after Mnangagwa appeared set to claim a controversial election victory in 2018. His main rival Nelson Chamisa said the election was rigged.

“Two years ago, Zimbabwean authorities launched a violent crackdown against citizens who were protesting flawed elections. That same government has yet to hold anyone accountable for the six protesters who were killed that day. To mark the anniversary of their deaths, the United States is taking action to fight corruption in Zimbabwe,” Pompeo said.

He said the United States supports a stable and democratic Zimbabwe, and the measures against Tagwirei “demonstrate to the government and people of Zimbabwe that the United States does not tolerate corruption and will promote accountability for perpetrators of public corruption.”

In Harare, the United States embassy said U.S. targeted sanctions now list 83 individuals and 37 entities.

“Targeted sanctions only restrict trade and travel for those who practice corruption, violate human rights, and undermine democratic institutions,” the embassy said.

Security forces deployed last Friday to block planned opposition protests over corruption and economic hardships.

Popular anger is high over inflation above 700 percent, hospital strikes, and shortages of medicines and foreign currency.

Mnangagwa blames the opposition, Western sanctions, droughts and the pandemic.

“Dark forces both inside and outside have tampered with our growth and prosperity,” he said in a speech on Tuesday.-zimlive

Chagwa doing fine, doesn’t have scandals – Tembo

0

KAPOCHE Constituency PF secretary Stephen Tembo says the party has a lot to do in readiness for 2021 polls.

Tembo says people that don’t vote have no right to comment on elected leaders because they never took part in selecting those leaders.

In an interview, Tembo said the 2016 general elections out of which PF emerged victorious over the UPND with a tight margin gives the ruling party party a task to work tirelessly towards 2021.

He said the UPND was a major threat on the political ground.

Tembo said the PF was certain on Edgar Lungu being their presidential candidate for 2021 and that having an alternative candidate would just bring confusion.

“Lungu is doing fine and I see no reason to rule him out. We have seen that Chagwa has been doing fine across the country as he doesn’t have scandals. So to start having an alternative candidate for 2021 is bringing confusion in the party. We don’t want internal wrangles because so far we have a great battle against UPND, we don’t want other headaches from the party,” Tembo said. “We have a democratic war with UPND and that is our battle for now. We shouldn’t debate on Lungu’s eligibility as the court already ruled that Lungu is illegible to contest in 2021.”

Tembo, who is also Chingombe ward councillor, emphasized that the PF needs to prepare a lot against the UPND.

“Our task is to sell the party in government to the people. We have to convince the people that PF under Chagwa has delivered and not to entertain internal differences as that will divert our agenda to win 2021 election. PF is not bad. Currently PF has delivered and it should be given few more years to complete the mission,” he said.

Tembo said the ruling party does not mind if people would go for UPND in 2021 democratically but that they should expect more problems than they have with the PF government.

“If UPND wins democratically, we don’t mind but I can assure you and the people that economically they will spoil the nation. There is nothing new they can offer to the Zambians as people will face more hell if they decide to rule out PF under President Edgar Lungu,” Tembo said.

Asked why PF was much more concerned with UPND than other political parties, Tembo said the opposition party had a force compared to other political parties.

“If you check 2016 elections, we challenged UPND with a slight margin, a situation which tells us that if we don’t prepare enough, we could be challenged because we don’t know how much they have prepared too,” he said. “We see that UPND has a force compared to these other political parties. We can’t waste time with little political parties, we have to face and focus on a giant in our political landscape which is UPND.”

Tembo said UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema would campaign in Eastern Province due to democracy the nation has but that the ground would tell him that the people in the region were convinced and baptised with PF works.

“HH will campaign in Eastern Province but to no avail because Eastern Province is certain for Lungu. Easterners are more democratic than Southerners. We are solemnly behind Edgar Lungu for 2021. No reason to substitute him, he is still a player on the pitch and playing well,” Tembo said.

He urged youths to acquire NRCs and voters’ cards in readiness for 2021 elections.

Tembo said people that don’t vote have no right to comment on elected leaders because they never took part in selecting those leaders.

“Everyone has a legal right to vote as long as they are of age. That’s why I challenge youths to vote in 2021 because they are known for not voting but again being abusive in criticising leaders. So if you want to have a say on leaders, take part in elections because it gives you power to say how you want things to be. If you don’t vote then don’t comment on the elected leaders,” he said.

Tembo challenged Easterners to copy from Southern Province where every child of voting age has an NRC and voters’ card and on the voting day they all go and cast their vote for their preferred candidate.

“In Southern Province, they take voting seriously starting from a child to the aged; they know the power of voting, they vote and that’s where they challenge us. I appeal that let’s go the Southern way; get NRCs, get voters’ cards and let’s go in numbers to vote for Edgar Lungu in 2021. We are not tribal in Eastern but they will teach us to vote on wako ni wako,” Tembo said.

He said anyone who says PF has not done anything in Kapoche and the nation is blind and deaf.

“We have delivered both here and the nation at large. If one says there is no development in Kapoche Constituency then they are blind and they can’t see. They are deaf that they can’t hear but so far under Dr Charles Banda, Kapoche has well received development. People talk well of PF, people talk well of Dr Banda and people talk well of the President. Come 2021 we are taking the lead again,” said Tembo.

Recently, Petauke based PF member Mutale Katongo said there was need to have an alternative presidential candidate for 2021 in case President Lungu is prevented from contesting having been elected and sworn to twice.

57 Incarcerated Youths Under Police Custody For 5 Months Without Charge – James Lukuku

JAMES LUKUKU WRITES POLICE

By Koswe Editors

………………………………………………..

THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE,
FORCE HEADQUARTERS,
LUSAKA.

5TH AUGUST 2020

cc: Hon Garry Nkombo.
cc: Hon Cornelius Mweetwa.

Dear Sir / Madam,

RE:57 INCARCERATED YOUTHS UNDER POLICE CUSTODY FOR 5 MONTHS WITHOUT CHARGE.

I wish to bring to your attention the lamentation of more than 100 youths but 56 to be precise, that have been under police custody for about 5 months without being taken to court for adjudication. These are youths that were arrested as suspected gassers, in the gassing scenarios that characterised the beginning of this year.

The following names can help you with tracing;-

  1. Osward Hamalala
  2. Bright Halwanza
  3. Isauh Nsenene
  4. Charles Mungaila
  5. Festus Mwaanza
  6. Bright Mainza

The first five are incacerated at Maxwell Sibongo Police post in Kamwala South, while the sixth one, Bright Mainza is at Chilenje Police.

These youths were arrested by Force Headquaters Police by police officers whose names I hereby withhold, but I can confidentially give the names of these arresting officers in this case to any one credibly interested in this matter.

I came across this injustice the time I was in police custody at Chilenje, and I feel it’s unchristian for me not to speak for these comrades who begged and assigned me to speak for them after getting out of cells.

Please note that Chilenje police is merely keeping a suspect for whom they can’t do anything about because the oppressing police officer is at Force Headquaters.

I am not assuming the innocence of these youths but justice demands the presentation of the same individuals before our courts for either acquittal or conviction.

That’s natural justice.

Chitalu Chilufya is innocent until proven guilty but these youths are suffering because they are guity until proven innocent.

I have copied Honourables Garry and Cornelius because the youths were picked from Choma and Mazabuka as far as I gathered. But the scenario might be national wide and the number of these enslaved youths might be much much higher.

A number of youths that the courts acquitted in relation to gassing scandals have not yet reached their families according to reports I gathered that must be investigated.

God bless our Republic.

The young boy at home who she keeps can be helping in the sales while we arrange for him to go back to school. Martin has volunteered to be helping them balance and do stock taking. Now you ask why cant she just sit? Well she can but that’s dangerous.

Granny is used to working, heaping her like a school of mealie meal and she sits doing nothing is psychologically straining, you can kill the old lady fast like that. Let her sit in her ka ntemba, we will fill it up and she can be selling. We will arrange how orders will be done and like I’ve said Martin will assit with the stock taking and getting other things. We putting on veggies, tomatoes, onions, we will buy some lollipops giggies, boom paste Colgate and other things..We will help her manage..

We have come up with a system of total transparency.. I have contacted the catholic Priests in Livingstone. Today will tabulate everything collected and send it to Rev Father Lengwe who is in charge of the Priests in training there in Livingstone.

Once that is done we will not collect a single coin. All donations will be handled and from them on Fathers will administer the funds as well as receive any donations.
Once again we are totally grateful on behalf granny. God replenish and Carter for your needs … Yours Mwaba Mutale

Failing Is Not Always An Indication That You Are Dull

By Chibamba Kanyama

Some of the world’s most innovative and creative individuals rarely do well academically; others even fail exams and get hugely frustrated. One reality is some of these individuals just fail to comply with set standards and norms; they look at equations and conclude they can create their own equations. It is in that process of failing to conform to set standards, standards set by other intelligent people, that they fail the exam.

Conformists usually do better; they memorize other people’s works and once they comply, they are given high marks. However, they rarely create anything new and their progression in life is generally limited. They conform at workplaces, thrive and get promoted but will rarely create anything of their own that employs others (nothing wrong about them at all!)!

If Jesus were to sit an exam under the Sanhedrin or Jews norms, and live by them, He was going to fail. He refused to conform. His perspective or worldview was different and it was this mindset and approach to issues that changed the world past, present and in future.

He challenged (religious) conformism when He said, ‘’No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” Mark 2:21-22

He simply changed the status quo. Innovation, creativity is Biblical and it’s encouraged. There is so much in the horizon awaiting your special touch but you have to go beyond the ordinary; those things that have been accepted as the standard.

Failing is not always an indication that you are dull; at times, it could be a signal that you are gifted in some other areas for which you can make a breakthrough that will change the course of the world. Tap into your gifting, release your potential, understand yourself and how you can do things differently. If you cannot fit into this world, let the world fit into you.

In any case, conforming at times denies us the opportunity to realise our true worth as the Apostle Paul warned, ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–His good, pleasing and perfect will.’ Rom 12:2

Zambia not Christian nation, we just claim to be – Archbishop Mpundu

0

EMERITUS archbishop Telesphore Mpundu of Lusaka Archdiocese says the “shameful” Bill No. 10 should have been correctly called Bill third term for Lungu.

He also argues that Zambia is not a Christian nation.

Archbishop Mpundu stresses that people should not be dithering around but call the current regime what it is – a dictatorship in everything, except in name.

He was speaking on The Assignment programme hosted by Andrew Mwansa on Muvi TV on Sunday evening.

Archbishop Mpundu branded the contentious Bill No. 10 as shameful.

“[It’s] shameful for many reasons. First of all, why is it that every administration that comes to State House wants to change the Constitution in order to perpetuate themselves in power? This is wrong!” Archbishop Mpundu said. “They are tampering with the Constitution in order to perpetuate themselves in power. They will be remaining there to continue maladministration in this country. It is a shameful bill! That Bill 10 they should have simply called it Bill third term [because] they want to give a third term to Lungu.”

He pointed out that President Edgar Lungu had already been elected twice and therefore, ineligible to contest for the presidency for a third time.

The clergyman noted that a law that was made to benefit a person or a small group or even a big group of people against others was right from the word go wrong.

“That’s what it is! What they see in that (Bill 10) is not only to perpetuate Lungu in State House but also it is designed in a way such that perhaps one person among those who are aspiring to become [presidential] candidates will be disqualified. It is criminal!” Archbishop Mpundu said. “So, it is a shameful bill [and] it should be withdrawn. Anyone who has been elected twice as President of the Republic of Zambia cannot run for a [third time]. This is what has happened to Lungu; (being elected twice). So, he is not eligible.”

Archbishop Mpundu added that Bill 10 would sow seeds of dissention, especially after the August 2021 elections.

“That is what happened [with] the disputed elections, the last ones. What happened to HH (Hakainde Hichilema)? Things like that might happen again,” he cautioned. “It is unfortunate [that] we have lost an opportunity to dialogue. Everything was in place after the Commonwealth people came here…People are taking the peace that we have in this country for granted. It is something that has been hard won but now it will be destroyed.”

He also recalled that recently, there was an incident when the Bishops’ conference sent a pastoral statement concerning Bill 10 where they criticised it.

“They said it should be withdrawn because it brings retrogressive and divisive elements. What happened? A group of people calling themselves Catholic parliamentarians reacted and said ‘no, it is wrong.’ It is unprecedented that Christians will tell the Bishops who are teaching from authoritative documents of the Church and the social teaching of the Church, that what you said is wrong,” Archbishop Mpundu noted. “If I were in the position now, I would say the leadership of this Catholic parliamentarians should resign. It has never happened…I would at least tell them for the time being, don’t use the name Catholic, because it is a scandal.”

Archbishop Mpundu further underscored that no politician would tell him that he was interfering in politics.

He said politics was his duty.

“I’m also a politician [but] I’m not seeking political power. I have the intelligence given to me by God. No one is going to frighten me that you are coming into politics,” Archbishop Mpundu said.

“Yes, politics is my business and I want to see politics done in the proper way. I’m not seeking political power. What would I seek political power for?”

He continued; “no one is going to say ‘you are being fronted or you are a hired gun.’”

“Do you think it’s so easy to hire me? I’m not a hired one and I’m not a gun. I’m a human being – a Christian, a priest and a Bishop and nobody is going to tell me you shouldn’t do this. No!” Archbishop Mpundu stressed.

He further explained that personally, he was not so enthusiastic about: “some of our brothers and sisters in the Christian area today who will say Zambia is a Christian nation.”

“No! Zambia is not a Christian nation. This is not a theocracy! Zambia is not a theocracy [but] a democracy – at least we want it to be a democracy. Right now it is not because all the elements are pointing to a dictatorial regime in everything, except in name,” he explained.

Asked what he meant by saying Zambia was not a Christian nation, the archbishop answered that: “you don’t make a nation Christian by a declaration.”

“It was done by Frederick Chiluba [and] a group of people who belong to a very militant kind of Christianity. I told Chiluba, he must be turning in his grave, when we went to State House in one of those meetings with the President. I said ‘where did you consult other Christian bodies?’” Archbishop Mpundu recalled. “It just came one day [and] we were declared a Christian nation. I said that is wrong! You don’t make a Christian nation by declaration. It is what you do [and] how you behave…We are not a Christian nation [but] we just claim to be a Christian nation.”

He also charged that Zambia had descended into a dictatorship because institutions of government had been corrupted by the Executive and not doing their work.

“This is not a democracy at all! This is a dictatorship in everything, except [in] name. That is it! There are no two ways about it. People should not be going around beating about the bush; this is the situation,” Archbishop Mpundu said.

Meanwhile, asked what Zambians should bear in mind as they go out to vote in 12 months’ time, Archbishop Mpundu responded that: “they have seen what has been going on.”

“All administrations have to be judged by their actions. This country is in a crisis – crisis of leadership, crisis of the economy. Putting people at loggerheads – tribalism and so on and so forth,” noted Archbishop Mpundu. “Is this a government they want to continue? Let them ask themselves sincerely. Corruption, mamama! So, [they should ask themselves if] this is the government they want to continue with or they need a big break.”

MAZABUKA RESIDENTS PLEAD WITH BANK OF ZAMBIA….’ALLOW ONO AND COMSAVE MEMBERS TO GRADUATE THEIR CURRENT MEMBERS’

Dear Editor,

APPEAL LETTER TO THE BANK OF ZAMBIA

We write to you following up on the abrupt unnoticeable freezing of COMSAVE and ONO cooperatives- credit unions’ banking accounts as well as halting members’ businesses. As a financial regulatory body, we hold you in very high esteem to provide and give direction to all financial institutions in our country and provide guidance regarding the economy as you have always done from inception.

In this vain, we the membership of Ono and Comsave respectively wish to indicate to you that we are optimistic that the ongoing investigations against the credit unions by DEC and BOZ will be conducted with an open mind and in a spirit devoid of deceit, from any party involved.

We wish to inform you that as a community and as members of these institutions, when the government encouraged initiatives such as village banking aimed at empowering women and youths and subsequent official encouragements from our local government leadership (DC-Mazabuka and PS-Southern Province) to join a credit union initiatives, to be specific Ono and Comsave in this instance to be specific, we could not hesitate to joining the initiatives more so that the two institutions are duly registered with the relevant government authorities and have never defaulted in terms of their obligation to pay out to their members from the time they started their operations.

As regards investigations, we are consoled to learn from informal sources that your esteemed institution has the interests of the members that have saved their funds with ONO/COMSAVE in order to raise funds for various economic activities such as for farming, school/university fees, etc.

However, the disruption of their ( Comsave and Ono )activities due to the ongoing investigations has created anxiety and panic among the entire membership who now do not know what next, where next will the money for livelihood will come from, money for farming inputs for 2020/21 season, later on, school/college fees for University students.

We are hopeful that soon these investigations will be concluded as quickly as possible and that the central bank will pronounce itself on this matter bearing in mind that many lives are in limbo starting from the investors themselves, their children, and dependants school-going children etc.

Our considered view and prayer is that if there is any law that has been contravened by the two institution.

1.We urge you not be punitive but rather embrace the initiative by ONO and COMSAVE and help them by offering neccesary guidance…Remember we can only develop this nation together with homegrown initiatives like these ones…

With your technical support, perhaps one can graduate into them cooperative banks which would be owned by Zambian citizens (the members). Most commercial banks in our nation are foreign banks. Can’t we as a nation provide an enabling environment for local participation and growth of local financial market?

  1. If it is licences or certifications they are lacking , can’t you guide them on the necessary documentations and the frame from within which they need to operate.
  2. If allowing them to participate in the financial market is not attainable, as a smooth and simpler way of meeting the needs of members, BOZ should let these two institutions take up no new members and allow them to “graduate” their current membership till the last one group is paid…. that is by July 2021.

In all this, please be alive to the fact that government officials (DC-Mazabuka and PS-Southern Province) in the past have urged the community members to join Ono and comsave as they graced some of the “graduation” ceremonies of members who saved with the two organizations. ONO and COMSAVE have always engaged state security all the time they have been doing business, they are engaged in community service such as feeding and paying school fees for willing street kids. These above are good pointers for a layman not to suspect any illegality in the institutions

Yours,

Mazabuka Residents

It’s not about me being president – M’membe

0

SOCIALIST Party leader and 2021 presidential candidate Fred M’membe says the formation of the leftist party is not about him becoming President.

Dr M’membe said on Wave FM Radio that human beings tend to make fools of themselves when they think so much about positions they should occupy in life and politics.

“Let me correct the impression. This is not about me, it is not about me wanting to be president. To be truthful, I am not interested in being president. It took my party more than one year and four months to convince me to take up the leadership position in our party,” Dr M’membe said.

He said it would be wiser to aspire for a modest, simple or even anonymous place in life and politics.

“If you have a close look or if you have a true measure of the power of people as individuals, you will realise that it is so fragile and such a small thing that it really does not make sense to magnify the role or any individual no matter how intelligent, brilliant or able they may be. Moreover, there have been more intelligent and meritorious figures in the course of history,” Dr M’membe said. “I think that human beings should never draw away from the honest call they seek and let themselves be influenced by position, by being president. That’s what I have always felt and always thought. I have always thought this way.”

He said he has never been tortured or concerned himself with positions he should occupy.

Dr M’membe said the position and glory of an individual was not worth the sacrifices of so many people.

“For the position, being president is not important. It is a secondary thing, a very secondary thing because it doesn’t seem honest for me to ask an atom of sacrifices from others for the purpose of me being president, me basking in the glory of being President. Therefore, we should be unassuming and limit ourselves in doing our small duties to the best of our abilities, and in fact, if you look at our abilities, they are very limited. That’s how I understand my role in life as a revolutionary,” he said.

And Dr M’membe said if consistently practiced, political honesty is the road that leads to one’s mind and will – the socialist ideal.

He said all progressive thinking leads to socialism and that his government would be one anchored on honesty, equity, humility and solidarity.

“Ours is a socialist programme, our government will be a socialist government and a socialist government is a government that will promote justice, equity and peace. It will be a government anchored on honesty, equity, humility and solidarity,” he said.

Dr M’membe explained that under the Socialist Party, there is nobody with too much power.

He said even if power was vested in a certain office in the party or state apparatus, the Socialist Party believes that it should be shared with others.

Dr M’membe said the Socialist Party believes in collective leadership and not individual governance.

“We do not believe that one person can change society. We do not believe that a president can change society. We believe that it’s a collective genius, collective effort that will bring about the changes that we are seeking in our country and homeland. So whatever the powers are vested in the President under this Constitution or any other constitution that we may have, will be of little effect on us because power will be shared,” he explained. “It will not be one man sitting in his office deciding what the Cabinet should be. Even if I am elected President, it’s not me sitting alone to choose or constitute a Cabinet but it will be the collective effort of the leadership of the party.”

Meawhile, Dr M’membe said there were many contentious issues in the current Constitution and even in Bill 10 that the PF government is trying to use to change the existing Constitution.

He, however, said whatever constitution the country would come up with, there was nothing like the best or worst constitution but what was needed was consensus.

Dr M’membe said there has to be maximum consensus to whatever constitution the country wants to come up with as people have the right to govern themselves in the way they want and deem fit.

“What they want and deem fit must be a product of consensus and arriving at consensus from a population of 18 million people is not an easy thing. It is time consuming, requires a lot of effort and sometimes can be expensive but it’s a necessity that must be done because avoiding reaching consensus with others may lead to more and more problems, more and more differences,” he said.

Dr M’membe advised that the focus now should be channeled to the many problems that affect the majority of Zambians such as living conditions.

He said addressing the living conditions of Zambians should be the most important priority of any government.

Dr M’membe said the biggest challenge of the current government and governments to come was moving Zambians away from the high levels of poverty.

He lamented that the country had 76.6 per cent rural poverty, which he said was too high.

Dr M’membe said Western was poorest province with poverty levels of 82.2 per cent with Luapula the second poorest with 81.1 per cent.

Further, Dr M’membe lamented that today Zambia was the fourth hungriest country in the world after Madagascar, Central African Republic and Chad.

He noted that Zambia had everything it needed to prosper and to feed its people.

Dr M’membe wondered why a country with so many hard working people and water bodies should fail to feed its people.

“We have the third poorest province, Northern Province with 79.7 per cent poverty levels, at number four we have Eastern Province with 70 per cent, then it is followed by Muchinga Province with 69.3 per cent then we have North-Western Province with 66.4 per cent and Southern Province with 57.6 per cent, Central Province with 56.2 per cent, Copperbelt which is highly urbanised 30.8 per cent, Lusaka, the provincial capital, with 20.2 per cent…these are very high poverty levels,” said Dr M’membe.

Mukaloba Ilyabola, Defence minister Warns Those Positioning Themselves For Running Mate

0

By Patson Chilemba

Those who are positioning themselves to be running mates bakaloba ilyabola, says Defence minister Davies Chama.

Speaking with Daily Revelation on the statement by ruling PF Lusaka provincial chairperson Paul Moonga that the party needed a male running mate that was strong, physically and mentally fit from Luapula, Northern and Muchinga provinces in the 2021 general elections, Chama said party members must stop manipulating the presidency, making him to choose certain regions against the other regions.

“Every other region is entitled. And for your information Her Honour the Vice-President is very fit, so why are we even debating the issue of running mate when the Vice-President has even said that she is available? So what’s the issue?” Chama asked. “So we don’t want people to start insinuating things that are nonexistent. So the Vice-President she’s available, she’s still in office and she has indicated her availability. I think she issued a statement to that effect. So I don’t know why even this issue is becoming debatable.”

Chama expressed surprise on why party members were positioning themselves for the Vice-Presidency.

“I don’t even understand why people should even position themselves, bakaloba ilyabola (they will catch rotten fish) because it’s up to the President to choose the running mate. Period. And it’s a long way to go why people can even start debating this issue,” Chama said. “We are just being destructed from issues of governance. That’s why people are alleging a lot of things even suspecting..when an incident happens it’s all the issue about running mate. For me this debate is irrelevant and it’s not even necessary for now. I think the President is more competent to handle this issue at the right time. And that’s next year when we start going for elections.”

At the start of the interview, Chama said he did not want to be seen to be debating with Moonga and that he needed to verify if it was him that issued that statement over the running mate position. But when reminded that it was this same journalist that interviewed Moonga and had also interviewed him (Chama) on several occasions, Chama opened up and spoke: “For you I know yes, for you I cannot doubt you. I know you personally and I think you are a man of your word, a man of integrity and I think we need journalists like yourself. But I think let us leave it at what I said.”

He said he had read what this media organisation had posted.

“And you depicted exactly what I discussed with somebody without twisting…so for that I want to say you are one of the rare. That’s how it is supposed to be, people must depict the truth without any distortion whatsoever,” said Chama.

Speaking with Daily Revelation recently, Moonga said even the vote margins from where the President came from in Eastern Province could not be likened to Southern Province, where opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema originates from.
“Meanwhile Luapula, Muchinga he’s (President Lungu) given a better share,” Moonga said. “So we should be very realistic, our colleagues who are giving us so much votes what do we do?”

Moonga said the PF could not be selfish against the people of the three Northern Bemba-speaking provinces, saying he had nothing against any tribe but was just being realistic.

“If you put ba (Richard) Kapita he’s a good man, qualified accountant, very intelligent from North WesternProvince, (do) you think he would add more value? The answer is no. What about those people giving more votes?” Moonga said. “A child whom you send all the time, go and bring this, even when there is left over food you call this child. Even the voting pattern should be the same.”
Moonga said if he were President Lungu, he would not look beyond those three provinces.

“And this time around I am talking about a male. Any male. All the good male candidates. I have nothing against the gender issues, I am looking at a person who would run the race. This country is 762,000 square kilometers,” said Moonga. “Somebody strong enough to hit the ground all over the 10,000 polling stations. We have got over 10,000 polling stations to go round and check every thing. That’s a strong man. Not just a man, a strong physically fit and mentally fit. Mentally stable. That’s a man I am looking at from those three provinces if I was Edgar Chagwa Lungu.” – Daily Revelation

PF cadre jailed 2 years for slapping Lubinda

0

A PATRIOTIC Front cadre has been slapped with a two-year jail term by the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for slapping Minister of Justice Given Lubinda.

In his judgment, chief resident magistrate Lameck Mwale said the assault on Lubinda during the execution of his duty as a member of parliament was barbaric.

This is in a matter where Martin Mambwe, 38, a driver of Kalingalinga Township, assaulted Lubinda on July 12, 2019 and occasioned him actual bodily harm.

Mambwe was also jointly charged with Patrick Mubanga, Major Chansa, Moses Mulenga and Goodson Mwange, who are businessmen, for proposing violence against Lubinda on the same date when they allegedly said “we will beat you next time you step your foot in Kabwata market”.

The five were acquitted of proposing violence but Mambwe was found with a case to answer for allegedly slapping Lubinda.

When the matter came up for judgment, magistrate Mwale convicted Mambwe as the state had proven the case of assault beyond reasonable doubt.

Magistrate Mwale found that it was a fact that Lubinda was at Kabwata market on the material day performing his duties as member of parliament and that it was a fact that he was assaulted at the market as confirmed by the witnesses and the medical report that was issued to him.

He said that he was satisfied that Mambwe was at Kabwata market and assaulted Lubinda contrary to his claim that he was not at the said premises.

Magistrate Mwale said the possibility of mistaken identity had been precluded as the convict was identified by Lubinda and his special assistant during the commotion and the identification parade.

He said the witnesses could not only pick the accused as the assailant when there were many people to point at therefore he could not accept the defense by Mambwe that he was recovering from Tuberculosis on the date of the incident as it was an afterthought.

The court said no medical report was produced before court to prove that Mambwe was sick when Lubinda was slapped and that the defense launched by the convict was a deliberate ploy clearly meant to absorb himself from the offence charged.

“I have no reason to doubt that the accused committed the offense he is charged with. I find that the prosecution has proven the charge beyond reasonable doubt and I find the accused guilty of the offence as charged and convict him accordingly,” magistrate Mwale said.

During mitigation, Mambwe’s layer Agrippa Malando said the former was at the court’s mercy and prayed that it exercises its discretion and have leniency on him as he was a family man with four children who look up to him and sending him to prison would aggravate the situation.

Malando asked the court to impose a non-custodial sentence on Mambwe to avoid congesting prisons and that the latter had learnt his lesson.

In his judgment, magistrate Mwale said he noted with regret the high prevalence of politically motivated violence and intolerance, and that Mambwe’s physical attack on Lubinda was not only retrogressive but barbaric and unAfrican.

“I will be failing in my duties if I allow such kind of violence to go unabated, especially violence on an elected representative of the people occasioned during the performance of his parliamentary functions,” said magistrate Mwale.

“I find this to be aggravating circumstances. In order to deter would be offenders, it is the firm view of this court that the convict deserves a custodial sentence. I therefore sentence the convict to 24 months imprisonment with hard labour effective today.”

During his testimony, Lubinda tearfully told magistrate Mwale that being assaulted for performing functions of which he was elected was extremely painful as he had not managed to recover from the shock of humiliation, because he has served the people of Kabwata with all diligence and honesty.

Lubinda, who broke down, as he gave his testimony wondered who was safe if a minister like him with state security 24/7 could be assaulted.

He said two weeks prior to his beating, he was visited by developers from Time Projects who were constructing a mall outside Kabwata market and they complained to him (Lubinda) that they had paid a cadre K205,000 for him to go and pay traders who operate outside the market as compensation for them to vacate the place so that the developer could put up a car park.

Lubinda said the complaint was made in the presence of town clerk Alex Mwansa and Kabwata ward six councillor Longa Chiboboka.

He said as the area MP, he raised concern saying political parties should not be involved in the running of markets and bus stations.

” It became imperative for me to visit Kabwata market to see for myself and talk to the marketeeers. Initially, I was supposed to go to Libala market but my ADC suggested we go to Kabwata market first because it is bigger than Libala market,” Lubinda said

Lubinda said during his tour of the market, he approached the lady who was selling cosmetics and inquired whether she was happy to be selling in front of the drainage and he engaged her for seven minutes.

He said whilst talking to the lady, he saw a large group of young men approaching from the northern side and he thought they were ordinary youths coming to meet their member of parliament.

“One of them extended his hand and I shook hands with him. Before long someone standing behind me started hurling insults and the fellow who held my hand started pulling my hand. The fellow hurled insults in Bemba saying: ‘Iwe chi Lubinda ulichaoyo, ninshi ulefwaya muno mu market? Niwe uleonaula icipani twaliku votele bakupela bu minister ulelyabwino nefibana fyobe nonba ulefwaya uletucinga ifwe mu market mulefwaya muletukanya ukubombela Kuma bus bushe ifwe tukalya banoko (Lubinda you are useless, what do you want from here? You are the one who’s destroying the party we voted for you and you were appointed as minister, you are feeding well with your children, now you want to overshadow us in the market, you are stopping us from collecting levy from markets and bus stations, are we going to eat your mother?” Lubinda narrated

He said at that moment, there was commotion and his ADC came to his rescue and pulled his arm backwards and pushed him towards the north. Lubinda said when he turned to look behind, he realised they were not ordinary youths as some were wearing masks.

“One youth had a chain and others had sticks. I realised I was in danger. I walked towards the north and walked towards the police direction using the aisle that I used when coming. My ADC was the one pushing me all the way. After we turned from the shop, I heard a voice ba MP and I turned to look and I received a slap and a fist to my face and I felt kicks behind me. When I looked back again I saw my ADC had drawn his pistol and he was pointing at the youth who was down three metres away from me, the youth looked shocked when the gun was pointed at his face and he knelt down and surrendered. I decided to continue walking away as the others were more loud, some were shouting nacikwata imfuti (he has a gun) and they were banging the shops making a lot of commotion and marketeers scampered for fear of being attacked,” narrated Lubinda.

“It was extremely painful to go through such experience. I felt pain on the right side of my face, I felt shoked and very hot in my face.”

PF IS IRRITATING ZAMBIANS WITH FAKE POPULARITY

PRESS STATEMENT

4 TH AUGUST 2020

PF IS IRRITATING ZAMBIANS WITH FAKE POPULARITY

Zambians are very upset with PF’s fake popularity from the just ended by elections. The PF’s so called victory has not only shocked Zambians, but even PF itself. Zambians want nothing else but PF to go. Had PF won genuinely the Zambian people could have celebrated together with PF. Instead Zambians are very upset with PF and are eagerly waiting to kick them out in 2021. Zambians are instead asking the UPND leadership to do more because they are not comfortable with PF. This self proclaimed victory will turn into misery very soon.

In Zambia it has become a tradition for the outgoing party to engage itself in self destruction before being kicked out. Those who were in PF prior to kicking out MMD in 2011 understand the facts on the ground. For those who were watching from a far let them wait for 2021 to see how PF will be embarrassed. PF is just following what UNIP and MMD did. If you chose to cheat yourselves who are we to say no? Any normal thinking Zambian knows that PF is finished. Are you sure you will manage to buy voters cards throughout the country in 2021? Wish you luck.

We understand that some of you earn your living by practicing sebana wikute politics. This is the more reason why you embarrass your Presidents, who end up crying because you cheat them. We don’t expect you to tell your boss that things are not in your favor. While you are busy cheating yourselves that you are popular, Zambians are eagerly waiting to sort you out. The noise that you are making over 10 wards is like you have won the general elections. We understand that your desperation is driving you crazy.

If you are popular as you wish to dream, why are you still going round the Country campaigning for the evil BILL 10? Are you not contradicting yourselves? As UPND we are just laughing at your cheap propaganda because we know very shortly you will be very miserable. To all UPND members and supporters please do not pay attention to these crooks and thieves. Even a thief celebrates when he is not caught, but once caught he regrets for the rest of his life.

PF NOT CORRUPTING UPND COUNCILORS

…..it’s actually UPND coercing them not to resign….

By: Marvin Chanda Mberi (Law Scholar)

The wind of continuation for the ruling PF is now blowing nearly in all corners of the country as it has now become stable in the once upon a time UPND strongholds.

The popularity of UPND and its life President Hakainde Hichilema is fading and melting like butter in the Sahara desert while the popularity of PF is raising at an alarming rate like the sun raising from the horizon after dusk.

This is attributed to the mature and issue based politics that the PF has embarked on with the development oriented approach.

The massive resignation of councilors in UPND has brought about insecurity as the chances of the UPND coming second are reducing.

We have noted the growing tendency of UPND to attribute massive resignations to alleged corruption which we have carefully scrutinized and established to be untrue.

This is the lame excuse which has become an alternative way of blackmailing their political opponents who with vigor and determination will eliminate HH at the political battlefront.

It is inconceivable that to assume that the attention seeking UPND can have evidence of bribery, conceal it and dare not to publish it in the press.

For a fact, bribery constitutes a criminal offence and UPND will do well to handover their councilors to the relevant institutions for prosecution as opposed to parading elderly people to expose their lack of consistency.

To the contrary, it is the UPND coercing its councilors not to resign to the party of mass movement and national character.

This is a scheme and the new political strategy UPND is using to quench their desperation to remain relevant in this era were the PF is the sole people’s choice.

We suspect and expect to see more UPND councilors taking resignations and later rescind their decisions with a view to seeking political attention.

We say so because in this era, financial transactions have proper paper trail and beside their oral assertions, there is no other connecting link between the allegations and members of the ruling party or indeed any other official.

There is growing intolerance and dictatorial culture which is well entrenched in UPND. The inordinate delay by UPND to replace the two departed vice presidents exposes that the UPND under Hichilema will grant the President despotic power to the extent that he will concurrently be performing the functions of the President and that of the Vice President.

UPND is at the verge of being relegated to a regional party once the campaign mode commences as many big wigs will flex their political six pack and join the winning team.

Having sensed the pending humiliating defeat, the oldest active opposition party knows so well that it is at the verge of historic defeat and this is why they are hitting out in desperation.

For a fact, the PF is not on the business of buying people, it is a voluntary association that values the right of citizens to belong to the political party of their choice. The PF’S preoccupation is to popularize the political agenda of President Lungu and the various political programs.

The preoccupation if PF is to carry on the mantle, preach the gospel to the unconvented whilst leaving no stone unturned. We refuse to be the reason their political shutting down.

We can only assure the UPND to brace themselves for mass exodus at the 11th hour preceding the election which will usher in President Lungu for the second term in office.

We wish to repeat our earlier timely request for Mr Hichilema to quit politics and concentrate to pursue his calling in the corporate world.

We say so as we are concerned with the timely warning he was given by his sympathizers of possible manhandling at the hands of his sympathizers should he suffer defeat at the hands of ECL.

Obama is ‘cold and ruthless’, says his half-brother who is urging U.S. to vote for Trump

Kenyan-born U.S. citizen Malik Obama, who is Barack Obama’s half-brother, has once again criticized his sibling for not supporting the extended Obama family back home in the village of Kogelo, Kenya. Malik called the former U.S. president “cold and ruthless” while urging Americans to reelect President Donald Trump in November instead of his brother’s former vice president, Joe Biden.

The 62-year-old half-brother of Barack was speaking to the New York Post on Saturday via Skype from his home in Kenya following the release of his new book, Big Bad Brother From Kenya.

“He got rich and became a snob,” Malik said of his brother Barack. “What I saw was he was the kind of person that wants people to worship him. He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that. I am his older brother so I don’t do that.”

“He got rich and became a snob,” Malik said of his brother Barack. “What I saw was he was the kind of person that wants people to worship him. He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that. I am his older brother so I don’t do that.”

Malik and Barack share the same father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr., a Kenyan economist who passed away in a car accident in 1982, according to The New York Post. Three years after his death, Malik met his half-brother Barack for the first time. Barack was then a 24-year-old Chicago community organizer and the two had a close relationship for decades before they fell out with each other.

Their strained relationship first began when Barack became president and issues arose as to which of his Kenyan relatives would be invited to his inauguration. Then things got worse after Malik told Barack of plans to set up a foundation named after their father – the Barack H. Obama Foundation.

Barack, who had then just been elected to the White House, was against the idea, fearing that the Barack H. Obama Foundation would be confused with him.

“We had a big fight on the phone because he was not in support and insisted I shut down the website and not continue with the foundation. He had his reasons but I was not having any of it,” Malik writes in his self-published memoir which he spent 22 years writing, according to the Post.

“We talked late into the night that night. He threatened to ‘cut me off’ if I continued with the idea.”

Malik went ahead with the foundation, which got into trouble with the law in 2011 when it claimed to be a tax-exempt nonprofit while it had not registered as such.

Then in 2014, Malik claimed that he asked his brother for help in burying their aunt Zeituni Onyango.

“We needed to pay for the bills and the cost of her transportation back to Kenya,” Malik writes in his 435-page book. “[Barack] asked me how much and I told him roughly $20,000. This was too much he said.”

Barack eventually gave the family $5,000.

“She really had been good to him,” Malik writes. “I don’t understand how somebody who claimed to be a relative or a brother can behave the way that he’s behaving, be so cold and ruthless, and just turn his back on the people he said were his family.”

Malik has in the past also expressed his displeasure with Barack’s “very business-like” and “very formal” reception toward him when he visited the White House in August 2015.

Then in 2016, Malik, who has dual citizenship in Kenya and the U.S., made headlines after saying he was supporting Trump over Hillary Clinton.

Malik’s decision to support Trump ignited online conversations about the meeting points, if any, between politics and ideology and the good old tradition of standing up for your family.

Many were quick to note that while Malik reserved the right to support any political party or lean toward any ideological movement, his actions, which seemed to be aimed at slighting his brother, appeared to be motivated by jealousy and spite.

After four years, Malik’s stance hasn’t changed.

“[I’m] 110% still with Trump,” Malik was quoted by The New York Post. “He’s not fake. He tells us the way he sees it. He’s bold and fearless and he’s tough.”

He also mocked his brother’s former vice president and Democratic nominee Biden as someone who “looks like he’s going to drop dead.”

“I don’t think he’s going to make it. His teeth are falling off,” Malik said of Biden.

Zambians running out of patience with PF – Sichula

0

NDC Copperbelt chairman George Sichula says having lost faith in the PF government since the 2016 elections when Edgar Lungu was controversially re-elected, Zambians are running out of patience.

In a statement, Sichula noted that President Lungu is trying to buy time in order to eventually change the constitution and run for a third term but Zambians’ desire for change is seemingly confronted by the ruling elite’s determination to ensure the status quo.

Sichula, the former Chingola district commissioner, said the resistance by the PF government to allow the opposition to hold intra party elections was one of the clear signs.

“It is a trend throughout Zambia where heads of states have gone to great lengths, including the use of violence, to stay in office despite constitutional and institutional barriers. Maintaining their prestige is one of the many reasons why some public officials are hanging onto power. But the issue is much deeper than that. One cannot fully comprehend their obsession with staying in power without first analyzing the nature of politics in Zambia,” Sichula said.

He noted with regret that under President Lungu, the Zambia’s economy is characterised by a bloated civil service, an inefficient private sector and a large informal sector.

Further, Sichula noted that in many parts of Zambia, citizens have been dealing with an increased cost of living since PF came into power.

“They (PF) are not only incapable of fighting corruption effectively, their leaders seem to lack the political will to create conditions for the emergence of a vibrant private sector, an essential tool for job and wealth creation,” he said.

He added that since public service jobs are inadequate and private employment and investment opportunities are extremely limited, many educated people in Zambia are turning to hardball politics in order to make ends meet.

Sichula said the professionalisation of politics is even more apparent in Zambia.

He further said given economic and structural conditions, President Lungu’s brand of winner-takes-all politics had become a viable alternative for desperate politicians.

“Many political parties are hardly parties at all, but instead one-man organisations with no real popular base. When they are not created with the help of established parties, they are usually launched by calculating men whose main ambition is their own financial prosperity. These aspiring politicians have learned how to exploit the political landscape, especially through the media. They frequently appear on talk shows where they make statements in favor of or against the government, whichever position boosts their standing,” he said. “The idea is to make just enough noise to get noticed in the hope of securing a position in government, or at least enough financial support to get elected at the local or national level. As a result, these politicians are more likely to then resist political change because of their financial interests. So they work hard to preserve the status quo, since it is almost impossible for them to make a living outside politics,” he said.

Sichula said the unrestrained access to public funds had encouraged corrupt public officials to pursue unsustainable and extravagant lifestyles.

He lamented that in Zambia today, lavish properties and abroad were a telltale sign of the rich and powerful, who spend their money ostentatiously.

Sichula, however, said since their ill-gotten goods were not productive, they quickly find themselves cash-strapped once they are out of office.

“It is therefore in their interest to hang onto their profitable political positions by any means necessary,” he said.

Sichula said in the absence of effective oversight and mechanisms of accountability, many senior public officials were led to believe that as long as they remain in power, they will not be prosecuted.

He said the aforesaid was especially true for countries with an entrenched clientelistic system, like Zambia, where appointments to senior positions, including the judiciary and election authorities, are more often based on services rendered than on expertise.

Sichula added that at the helm of this system is the president, who feels indebted to those who helped him seize power.

“Under these conditions, it is incredibly difficult to remove or prosecute corrupt and incompetent government officials. So it is not unusual for senior public officials to commit serious crimes during their tenure, despite being fully aware that they are likely to be prosecuted once they leave their posts. However, even if they end up earning some degree of immunity while in office, they remain a target of vigilant justice from ordinary citizens, whom they had long persecuted,” said Sichula.

WHAT IS THE REAL OPPORTUNITY COST OF THE $13MILLION KAFUE FLYOVER?

0

By: Anthony Bwalya – UPND Member.

Today is the day the Patriotic Front (PF) regime and President Edgar Lungu will once again parade the media and play and dance to the gallery as they commission the Kafue Flyover decongestion project.

The project has been built with $13m of debt money from India via EXIM Bank of India, and built by an Indian contractor – AFCON. Please note that because of the structure of implementation of the project, 75% – 80% of the project amount never actually came to Zambia, while Zambians will still be expected to pay around 10% of US dollar driven interest on the original loan amount.

So, we have the flyover yes, but what inherent economic value has the flyover generated which will generate $15m over the next 5 – 10 years for example to be able to pay back the loan in respect of this project?

For a UPND administration, $13m would have been enough money to recapitalize MULUNGUSHI TEXTILES, creating around 4,000 direct jobs, with another 1,000 indirect jobs through textile supply chain linkages such a cotton outgrower schemes, transport and logistics.

From the direct jobs alone, at our current personal taxation reforms proposals, that is $2.5m in tax revenues per annum for the country; while if we extend the revenue gains across the entire textile supply chain, the value tops $5m in tax receipts per annum.

With just Six (6) years of functional operation of a recapitalized MULUNGUSHI TEXTILES, a UPND administration would generate enough tax revenues to be able to not only repay the initial $13m loan amount, but also generate enough cash internally to build the equivalence of the Kafue Flyover.

For the PF regime, we Zambians will only have the flyover to look at while looking for money to maintain it – zero actual economic value.

But while this is going on, do Zambians know that some high ranking elected politicians in the PF are having luxurious lodges being built for them in our national parks using kickbacks money from infrastructure projects such as this one, although not exactly this particular one.

Wake up my people.

Tell your neighbor and ask your neighbor to tell their neighbor.

Those Posting, Attacking Party For Losing Don’t Understand What It Takes To Participate In Elections – UPND

THOSE POSTING, ATTACKING PARTY FOR LOSING DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT TAKES TO PARTICIPATE IN ELECTIONS – UPND

By Agness Changala-Katongo

Opposition UPND secretary general Stephen Katuka says those sitting in their homes, posting and attacking the party for losing elections have no idea what it means to take part in an election.

UPND took part in the recently held by-elections in Luapula, Western and North-Western Provinces, and the overwhelming majority of the wards were won by PF.

Speaking to Daily Revelation on the loss the party suffered in the just ended by-elections, Katuka said those accusing the party of being relaxed as the reason for losing some of the by elections, have no idea what it means to take part in an election.

He said most of them just sit in their homes and write things to post, saying writing is easier than what the party experiences in a violent and unfair election under the PF.

“Those who are talking have not been in these by elections. They are sitting in their homes and just posting. It’s easy to write but those in the field, they know what is on the ground,” Katuka said.

He argued that it was not that people were voting for PF, but the party was buying votes.

“You see they are literally buying those votes not that people are voting. I will tell you that in one by election in Nangula ward, in that by election, a returning officer was hounded out of the polling station by PF cadres. How do you have an election where a man in charge of an election is thrown out and the police were watching,” Katuka asked.

He claimed that the election were not free and fair as they were also characterized by violence.

Katuka added that the only consolation he had was that the PF would not be able to replicate the vote buying in a general election.

“Because there would be activity all over the country and people will be voting on their own,” Katuka said.

He said what goes on in Zambia are not elections but a battlefield due to the high level of violence.

“You know the level of violence. Right now my national chairperson for the youth (Likando Mufalali) has a broken leg from an attack that occured in one of the by elections in Western Province. Where their jimbles beat him with some iron bars and he has a broken leg now,” he said.

He said it would not be possible for the PF to get the mealie meal they are distributing now into all the 150 constituencies in a general election.

“That won’t be possible. It wont be possible to go and slaughter animals and feed people in all the 150 constituencies. So there would be a resemblance of a free and fair election than in by-elections,” he added.

Katuka said by- elections are never the best to judge the popularity of a political party, saying when the country goes for a general election, the atmosphere would be different.

Katuka said MMD was equally winning by-elections but lost elections in 2011, saying winning by-elections for the ruling party was not guarantee that they would still win 2021. However, while it is true the MMD used to win by-elections, it is also true that the PF in the opposition never used to lose elections in their own strongholds.

He appealed to party supporters to remain calm and help mobilise the party.

“Although I know that the environment now is not easy for them,” he said.

Katuka further said the police were PF and are locking up UPND members who are attempting to mobilise the party.

“However, you don’t have to go anywhere. Within your locality. Wherever you are, wherever you stay, please be a campaign manager yourself,” he pleaded with his supporters. “Talk to your neighbors, talk to those that are close to you and that way, we can mobilise. Each one can mobilise wherever they are.”

Katuka also called on party supporters not to lose hope.

“UPND supporters should not lose hope. It is darker before dawn and there is hope. If you see Chiengi in that Province we used to get 1, 000 in the entire Luapula. We were getting two votes here, one vote there, one vote or zero. Toatl 1,000 for the province. But look at by elections. In a ward, we could get a 1,000,” said Katuka. “So if we combine all the 1,000 in wards in Luapula how much will it be. So they should not lose hope. Help is around the corner.” -Daily Revelation

UNDERSTANDING THE COMPLICATED MINDSET OF A RURAL VOTER

0

UNDERSTANDING THE COMPLICATED MINDSET OF A RURAL VOTER
Rural voters are often misunderstood to be of low intellect, that they fail to reason and that a simple chitenge will win them over.
But that is not the case, rural voters actually have very high intellect, and they do reason like everyone else.

However, they are trapped in a permanent cycle of poverty that forces them to vote a certain way, against their own wishes.
For rural voters, the immediate hunger situation requires immediate relief, in the form of short term relief benefits, and the PF has come to master this game, where poverty is used and exploited to extract political benefits from rural voters.

1: The PF uses the DMMU as a political tool, they will distribute some mealie meal to villagers before the election and tell them that they will receive the balance only after the PF wins the election. This forces the villagers to vote for PF because they are in dire need of the food.
2: The PF abuses the social cash transfer programme by telling rural voters that only those areas who vote for PF will receive it.
The rural voter in Western Province knows that if they vote for the opposition right now, they will not receive their social cash transfer benefit, they are therefore left with no choice but to vote for PF in a by election.

The rural voter knows that voting for the opposition in a ward election will give them no financial or material benefits because the republican President is still PF.

3: The PF uses agricultural inputs as a weapon, rural voters are told that if they don’t vote for PF, they will not receive seed and fertilizer. We are now going into the farming season and these rural voters know that if they don’t vote PF, they will not receive inputs. They are then forced to vote for PF.

To summarize it, it’s generally blackmail. The PF blackmails rural voters into voting for it in by elections, they use poverty and hunger as a tool to extract political benefits.

We need to understand that there’s two economies in Zambia, the urban economy and the rural economy and the needs of voters in these two economies are different.

The rural economy is highly dependent on government handouts, which means the party in power at any given time has an edge because it controls the resources.

The urban economy is different, people don’t receive handouts from government, they rely on good government policy to create a conducive economic environment where people work for themselves.

That’s why when a government fails, like the PF, they first lose support in the urban areas before the wind of change sweeps through the rural areas.

But the PF must not underestimate the intelligence of a rural voter.
Rural voters always vote for the ruling party in by elections to extract short term benefits, but when it comes to general elections with the Presidency at stake, these voters always vote their mind.

Ask MMD and RB, they used to win all by elections in Western province in the run up to 2011, but when the general election came Michael Sata even won areas like Mongu and Nalolo, once deemed impossible.

‘If you can talk, you can breathe’ – Police pin another black man to death

0

A 39-year-old black man, Lionel Morris in February met his untimely death while in police custody. Morris’ disturbing death came after shortly after being arrested at a Harps grocery store in Conway on Feb. 4.

Conway police officers were called in by store clerks to report a case of lifting by a couple after the shoppers had allegedly taken a drone out of its packaging while in the store.

Bodycam footage released on Wednesday showed officers approaching Morris and Brandi Arnold, who police say is Morris’ girlfriend. Arnold allowed officers to handcuff her and taken outside to a police vehicle.

But Morris wouldn’t budge and as a result, the officers chased him through the store to arrest him. He was eventually arrested and pinned to the floor as they tried to handcuff him. Morris was “actively refusing arrest” and “being combative” with officers, Prosecuting Attorney Carol Crews said in a letter.

Morris reportedly hit his head on a shelf while running. Bleeding from his forehead officers tased him several times, claiming they saw him reached for a knife from his pocket. He can be heard shouting “help me please” and “my heart” as the officers used their body weight to subdue him.

One of the officers told Morris “I’ll break your f* wrist” while he was being handcuffed. At some point three officers stood on his leg, buttocks and back simultaneously, KATV reported.

Throughout the arrest, Morris continuously yelled, “I can’t breathe”, begging for an ambulance to be called but one of the officers replied: “If you can talk, you can breathe.”

According to the outlet by the time the Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) arrived, Morris was unresponsive and pulseless at the scene. He was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at the hospital.

Morris’ death, according to the medical examiner, was caused by a combination of methamphetamine intoxication with exertion, struggle, restraint, and conducted electrical weapon deployment.

“The level of drugs Mr. Morris had in his system and the strain he exerted while struggling with police ultimately led to his death,” Conway Police Chief William Tapley said.

Morris was serving five years of probation for felony drug charges at the time of the Feb. 4 arrest, according to Pulaski County court records.

Conway Mayor Bart Castleberry said he found some of the actions of the officers in the footage “concerning,” calling for some of the officers who made the arrest to be put on paid leave during an internal investigation.

Castleberry also conveyed a committee of Black leaders to review the policies and training of the city’s police department. “There are some behaviors that must change,” Castleberry said. “There is no place for racism in the city of Conway…It’s time to have hard conversations.”

Meanwhile, the officers have been cleared of criminal wrongdoing.

Living in fear of losing power

0

It’s very clear that the leaders, cadres and members of the Patriotic Front are gripped by fear of losing power.

And fear of losing power is a terrible thing because it corrupts those who wield it.

Being in power offered them access to numerous tangible and intangible benefits. Fear of losing all these things might therefore initiate in them behavioural responses aimed at capitalising on those benefits while it is still possible. Therefore, fear of losing power may sway them to engage in self-serving behaviour.

This is understandable given the current highly competitive and rivalry political environment that foster opportunistic self-interested behaviour.

It is not really power that is corrupting them, but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it.

Let’s not forget that power entails having the discretion and the means to asymmetrically enforce one’s will over others. Evidently, having power engenders numerous benefits: it implies having control over one’s own and others’ resources and it frees the individual from the influence of external forces.

Not surprisingly, power is valued by many; hence, people tend to seek it, whether it be in the organisational or larger societal context. Moreover, once they have it, they are generally not willing to let it go.

Understanding the potential effects of Patriotic Front leaders, cadres and members’ fear of power loss is important, because their fear of losing current perks and benefits may lead them to engage in behaviours that could negatively impact society.

Fear of power loss may prompt them to engage in self-serving behaviour by prioritising their self-interest at the expense of others’ interests.

Power implies being able to affect the environment or others at will. Those with power have more control over valued resources than those without power. Those endowed with power can act relatively autonomously and therefore do not have to rely on others to obtain rewards or avoid punishments.

In contrast, those without power are subject to more constraints and have to rely on others to attain valued outcomes or to avoid undesirable outcomes.

Looking at power in this way, one can understand why there’s so much fear and desperation in the Patriotic Front.

PF will do everything possible to bury HH from the political field-Sunday Chanda

Patriotic Front(PF) Media Director Sunday Chanda says the ruling party will do everything possible to bury UPND President Hakainde Hichilema from the political field.

“Indications are clear, HH is on his way to another humiliating defeat in 2021 and the signal is here,” he said.

Mr. Chanda said the ruling party would anchor it’s message on uniting Zambians through visible infrastructure development and other strategies.

He said the ruling party would easily bounce back into power in 2021 because it had a national character with large numbers in the strongholds while UPND had lost grip on its regionalhold after Western Province moved to PF.

Mr. Chanda said PF would not take anything to chance because this would be Mr. Hichilema’s last losing fight.

He urged PF supporters to obtain National Registration Cards- NRCs and voter’s cards in order to peacefully retire the regional social media politician.

And Opposition aligned Good Governance and Human Rights Activist, Sikaile C Sikaile, says PF will return to power because it is already miles ahead of the opposition.

“Don’t argue about the small margins, who cares? Do our voters even think that far in analyzing issues, absolutely no,” Mr. Sikaile said.

He said the entire UPND should come to the realization that winning 2021 elections is between January this year and until December 2020.

“When you hear PF leaders claiming that they are returning to power next year, don’t underestimate them,” Mr. Sikaile said.

The Political Scientist said PF is a group of well coordinated people.

“No matter what excuse UPND can come up with for them to justify the losing of some local government election to PF from Western province, will not make sense to anyone,” Mr. Sikaile said.

He explained that in political science, the impression you create before the public has a huge impact to motivating voters to throw their weight on you.

“Even a woman you are eying to marry, must have a clear understanding of what you are talking about so that she can make a sound decision,” he said.

Mr. Sikaile said defeating the PF government needed extra efforts by the UPND unlike what is obtaining.

BRE REFUSES GOVERNMENT PLANS TO SLAUGHTER ALL CATTLE IN BAROTSELAND, TELLS THE MINISTRY OF LIVESTOCK AND FISHERIES TO START FIRST COMPENSATING THE AFFECTED CATTLE FARMERS

By Barotseland Broadcasting Network
Reporter,

The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE), has advised the Ministry of livestock and fisheries to start first COMPENSATING the Barotse Cattle farmers before slaughtering the cattle in Barotseland.

In a meeting which was summoned and chaired by the Ngambela Mukela Manyando yesterday 2nd August ,2020 in Limulunga Royal village between the BRE, officers from the Ministry of livestock and fisheries and the Barotse Cattle farmers to discuss as to why the Zambian Government through the Ministry Livestock and fisheries was targeting to slaughter cattles in Barotseland in pretexts of controlling Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) a highly contagious respiratory disease of cattle found in most sub-saharan African countries. Ngambela Mukela Manyando advised the Ministry of livestock and fisheries to put to hold their plans and allow sensitization and more engagement on the matter with the relevant stakeholders is done because the matter had serious issues which needed to be addressed before government goes ahead with their plans.

Ngambela Manyando said it was unfortunate that Government wanted to undertake such serious move without engaging the parties and other relevant stakeholders to ascertain the merits and demerits of the matter. Ngambela Manyando wondered as to why Government was so much in a hurry to slaughter cattle in Barotseland instead of first starting with compensating the affected farmers.

Meanwhile, some cattle farmers who also attended the meeting yesterday in Limulunga told off the Ministry of livestock and fisheries that they will not allow the evil schemes by the Zambian Government to SLAUGHTER their cattle in pretext of controlling cattle disease without compensation at all.

The cattle farmers indicated that the scheme to slaughter cattle in pretext of controlling the CBPP disease in Barotseland was a deliberate scheme by the Zambian Government aimed at wiping out all cattle in Barotseland so that the people of the region can remain more poor and poorer.

Early July this year the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock through Vet and Police in Nkeyema District invaded a certain farmer’s kraal by surprise and slaughtered 57 cattle in the pretext of controlling the CBPP disease. The farmer resisted but was handcraft and tied as they slaughtered all his animals while he watched and crying.

PF LOCAL GOVERNMENT WINS IN WESTERN PROVINCE

PF LOCAL GOVERNMENT WINS IN WESTERN PROVINCE

By Evans Liselo

The Ruling Party cleverly understands the feelings of resentment by the people, of their local and parliamentary representatives especially towards the end of the life of parliament. These elected officials have a tendency of sitting back as they are unsure whether they will be readopted for the next election which in this case is 2021.
This phenomenon is everywhere and not only in UPND strongholds, but the PF seizes this disconnect between the elected representatives and the communities, to entice the unsure and disenchanted Councillors with huge sums of money as ‘retirement’ benefits, offers they easily accept knowing they may go with nothing if they don’t get adopted by the party.

You will recall that President Lungu was in Western Province recently followed by the entire government and PF party machinery shortly afterwards, distributing food aid and hard cash. The issue here is hunger which communities blame their local representatives for not coming to their aid, of course due to PF massive propaganda that suggests opposition can’t be helpful apart from the party in power. A councillor friend of mine told me he was given K150,000 cash with a resignation letter drafted for him by the ruling party. Well, he received the money and resigned as arranged. Then to the shock of everyone in his community, his wife (a sec sch teacher deployed 6 years ago), was promoted from the post of class teacher directed to head a secondary school in central province. She was confirmed within 2 weeks of heading the sec school.

The truth is PF wins are a vote of no confidence in local representatives because a lot of people are saying they are just waiting for 2021 to vote for a Hakainde Hichilema and not lazy Councillors or MPs. In 2021 you may have a situation where HH wins the entire Western Province but UPND loses local government seats. The fact on the ground is that 75% of people in Western Province and North Western Province love and believe in HH than in President Lungu, the reason I really don’t know. So despite not doing well in these by-elections, in 2021, HH will still emerge victorious with a commanding lead.

The UPND as a party must pull up their socks in Western Province for them to also win local government elections. There’s a problem with the Secretariat at the UPND.

“DEFEND YOURSELVES AND THE COMMUNITY”, UPND LUSAKA YOUTH LEADERSHIP TELL MATERO YOUTHS
Lusaka – 02.08.20
……… since PF are saying the people attacking UPND members and our mothers in these markets, bus stops and compounds are not their members, we’ll take these attackers as criminals. And even the constitution allows citizens to defend themselves when attacked by criminals, so we will defend ourselves and the community…

The UPND youth leadership in Lusaka district, this afternoon met Matero youths and spoke on a number of issues affecting the youths both in the party and at community level.

The wards that attended the meeting included Kapwepwe, Mweembeshi, Matero ward, Lima ward 26 and Muchinga wards.
The youth leadership was led by the District youth Chairperson, Archritious Mwanakayaya, his deputy politics Anthony Zimba and the youth gender Martha Sahamange. Anthony Zimba, told the youths that Matero constituency was very important to the party.
Mr Zimba expressed happiness that after the intra-party elections that was held recently, the party in Matero constituency has remained intact and are more united than before.

Speaking to the youths, Chairman Mwanakayaya told the youths to work extra hard by helping form more branches across the constituency. Mr Mwanakayaya told the youths that UPND belonged to them as they were the majority and game changers.

Mr Mwanakayaya further told the youths to defend themselves and the community when attacked by criminals. “When you are attacked defend yourselves and the community. Since PF are saying the people attacking UPND members and our mothers in these markets, bus stops and compounds are not their members, we will take these attackers as criminals! And even the constitution allows citizens to defend themselves when they are attacked by criminals, so we will defend ourselves and the community”, he said.

The district strong man told the youths to be ready and work in unity as the party prepares for 2021 general election. He told them that discipline was the most important thing.

And Lusaka district youth gender, Martha Sahamange told the youths never to forget how PF have destroyed this country’s economy through corruption and theft of public resources. She said that the country has witnessed high levels of corruption and theft because PF do not mean well for a common Zambian but their interest was their pockets. Martha gave an example of Lumumba road who not long ago was worked on at an exorbitant price but less than a year the road has been damaged forcing the contractor to go on site again. She stated that this was pointing out to the fact that corruption was at play – someone was getting the difference!

The leadership also reminded the youths that all the families of the fallen heroes and those that have been slain in the political battle for a better Zambia look up to them. They told them that, this is the more reason why they should work extra hard to attain what their friends wanted to. “Our friends, the likes of Lawrence Banda, Grayzer Matapa, Mapenzi Chibulo, and many other have died fighting for a better Zambia and their families are looking up to us to ensure that their beloved ones get the desired justice,” the leadership stated.

HELP MABUMBA…don’t mock him – Bishop Mambo

0

CHIKONDI Foundation president Bishop John Mambo has urged Zambians not to mock former general education minister David Mabumba but to embrace him and help him recover from the embarrassment.

And Bishop Mambo says Zambians must draw lessons from Mabumba’s ‘disgrace’ instead of condemnation.

On Tuesday evening, nude pictures and videos of Mabumba from a private WhatsApp video call emerged and were widely shared on social media.

On Wednesday, President Edgar Lungu dismissed Mabumba from his ministerial position and replaced him with Dennis Wachinga.

But Bishop Mambo described the leaked video of the former minister as sad.
“We are a Christian nation, and I expect the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs [Godfridah Sumaili] to come out in the open and provide council. To quote the scripture, to say, ‘when you find your father naked, pick a towel and cover his nakedness. But if you are going to rejoice, it is the country’s moral standing that is gone’,” Bishop Mambo said. “To us who think to be clever, you must learn one thing. When you see a man fall, don’t laugh but learn because you are going in the same route. It can happen but it is just that you have not been found, but all of us are found wanting.”

He said Zambians must draw lessons from David Mabumba’s video and desist from engaging in bad vices.

“To the Zambian people who are mocking him, you should not be doing that to a man who needs your help; embrace Mabumba. Chaona muzako chapita, maba chili pali iwe (what has happened to someone today could happen to you tomorrow). Learn from such mistakes and know that one day it will be you. Let’s remove politics and help our brother to get back to his feet,” Bishop Mambo urged. “If we were to be followed, each one of us will be found wanting. Moreover, vengeance is for God and true forgiveness is His. So, let us emulate God by doing what is right to serve a brother. Mabumba needs every one of us; he has a family. If we continue attacking him, it’s not only him who is affected but also his relatives, wife and children.”

Life Is A Journey: A Policeman’s Touching Tale

LONG BUT INTERESTING AND TOUCHING:
Life Is A Journey: A Policeman’s Touching Tale

I met Thandiwe Zulu in 2005 during a United Church Of Zambia church conference at St Paul’s church in Kabwata.

She was one of the participants from Chipata.A church friend introduced me to her and that’s how we became friends and later we got married in 2006 after I paid k4000 lobola. We had a traditional wedding.

About 3-month after we got married, I asked Thandiwe to come up with a business proposal.I wanted to empower her.I was against the idea of her just staying at home without doing anything.

Thandiwe told me she wanted to do business of buying women clothes from South African for resell here.

I was then working as an accountant at a private school in lusaka.

I got a loan and I gave her the capital and that’s how she started travelling to south Africa.

Within a short period of time, her business grew, she would travel to south Africa twice a month. She then stopped dealing in women clothes and started supplying Electronic appliances and groceries to Indians the entire Lusaka.

She started making a lot of money. My salary was peanuts to her. Then suddenly I noticed that she was becoming too excited with her new found fume. She suddenly became disrespectful. She used to tell me off in front of my friends. She stopped doing house chores and doing my laundry.

At first when she started her business, she would go on her business trips for a week but now she started going for a month and some times even for 6-weeks and she would threaten divorce whenever I questioned her as to why she had taken long to come back from her business trip.

Things got worse when I stopped work. The owner of the school where I was working died and his children failed to run the school, so the school was shut.

Thandiwe and I had to move from the school house to nipa flats.Thandiwe paid rentals for the new flat.

She became so unruly. She told” me she wasn’t ready to feed a grown up man.” She started spending nights out.She would come back the next day looking fresh.

I continued to stay with her because I did not have any place to go to.Then I started hearing rumors, that she was cheating on me with a Nigerian national. When I asked her about the rumours, she confessed that it was true and that she no longer wanted me in her life. She told me I was not man enough as I was a broke man who depended on women for survival.

I was shocked.I felt like hitting her hard but I managed to control my temper.

I left our house and went to Sikanze police camp to watch a soccer match involving Nhwazi vs Konkola Blades.

I was still hurt inside.I could not understand her behavior after all I did for her.

When I got home after the match, I found my things at the doorstep of our house and the door was locked. It was embarrassing.Neighbours came out of their houses to see what was going on.I could hear people making fun of the whole situation.

I just got my things and went to my Uncle’s place in Lilanda.I walked from Nipa to Lilanda.

When I reached Lilanda I explained everything to my uncle and the next day my uncle summoned Thandiwe and her relatives.

Surprisingly Thandiwe and her relatives came to the meeting with k4000 lobola I had paid.We were told that the marriage was over.

I begged Thandiwe to rescind her decision.I begged her to stay with me but all in vain.I loved Thandiwe so much, She was the first woman I dated and subsequently married.

I was heartbroken.I cried like a small baby but it’s like she had already made up her mind.

I only stayed with my uncle in Lilanda for a week.He was a council retiree and he was looking after more than 7 orphans and dependants and his house was small.

I managed to find a room for k150 in chibolya.I started applying for jobs but the response was not favourable. My neighbour Amos was a bus driver so, one day he asked me to be his bus conductor for a day as his conductor was not feeling ok that day.I accepted his offer and that’s how I became a conductor and sometimes i used to work as a luggage loader at intercity bus terminus.I started making a bit of money and eventually I forgot about Thandiwe.

Two-years passed without hearing from her. Then one day in 2008, we met at intercity bus terminus when she was coming from south Africa. She came out of the bus together with a light skinned guy.She was looking very attractive and happy.I could tell the guy she was with was her boyfriend. They looked beautiful together.

I then approached them and offered to carry their luggage.well that was my Job.Thandiwe ignored me, I could tell that she did not want her man to know about us.I could tell that my presence made her feel uncomfortable. She was now high class.I was not comfortable either. I was dirty and tidy and I had a lot of beards.

She did not greet or say a word to me.There was a red Jaguar waiting for them just near Juldan motor ways offices at intercity. Her man instructed me to take the luggage to the parked car. After this was done, they jumped in the car and speed off.

I felt bad that day.I still loved Thandiwe.I could not understand why she betrayed me.I continued working as a bus conductor and as a luggage boy.

One day in 2010, while transporting passengers from Chelstone to Town I was invited to church by one of the passengers. It happened that It was my birthday and at night when we were about to knock off the driver and I offered the passengers a free ride. The passengers were happy and a woman called Lucy invited me to her church at CHRIST EMBASSY at YMCA in chilumbulu road.

I did not want to disappoint her so I went to her church the next morning.I was welcomed at church and that’s how I joined the Christ Embassy Church.I continued going to church and after a month, there was an announcement in church for all those willing to join the Zambia Police Service. We were told to see one of the senior elders. After the church service Lucy and i went to see the church elder. He told us to give him both our academic and professional documents.

Lucy had his number, so that same week we gave him our documents.Lucy and I became best friends and through her help I moved to Kabwata where she helped me rent an inside bedroom.I stopped being a bus conductor and concentrated on my church work.

About a month after I applied to join the Police service, a break through happened in my life. The names were published in the newspapers and Lucy and i were selected to go for trainings at Lilayi Police Training College.

We went for trainings for a year and after the pass out I was posted to Force headquarters while Lucy went to work at Central police.

I married Lucy a year after our pass out.I owe her my life.I started raising up fast in ranks because of my trade.I had a diploma in Zica.

When Sata became president, I was pomoted and sent to work in foreign mission in Russia where I was for two years.

When President Lungu become president, I was recalled and promoted to a senior security position.
Lucy and I are still together and we have 2 kids together. She has been so supportive.

I have decided to share my story because last week during the preparation of the inauguration ceremony ,there were a group of prisoners who were cleaning the surrounding at heroes stadium.

Thandiwe was one of the prisoners.I recognized her and went to greet her.She was puzzled and confused when she saw me.I was dressed in a suit. She did not understand why Police men and Police women were saluting at me.I went straight to where she was cleaning and said hi and left.I don’t know what landed her in prison but whatever it is, that’s her own baby to nurse.

Lungu a weak President – Masebo

0

UPND Chairperson for Mobilization and Strategy Sylvia Masebo says she feels sorry for President Edgar Lungu because he is a weak Head of State.

And Masebo says the Copperbelt is now 90 percent opposition, which is an indication of victory in 2021.

Masebo said this in Kitwe during the close of the Copperbelt UPND intra-party elections.

She said President Lungu was failing to act on many serious issues because his administration had been captured by those who did not mean well.

“President Lungu is not in control of this country. If he was, he could have acted on many serious issues. All he knows is to make excuses. Today, everyone is a President, if you have a weak President, we are in problems. They have hijacked the presidency, he is under state capture, he has all the powers but he is failing to act. It means that you the citizens don’t have a parent and you need to act and stop this. You need a parent who will listen and care for you,” Masebo said.

“If you see a country and you find road blocks every where, just know that it is a troubled country or failed state. In Nyanja we say it is a government yama fontini (backwards thinking people). You find the PF cadres are directing the police, just know that we don’t have a country. If police are timid and scared of cadres, just know that it is a failed state.”

She said President Lungu’s administration was the worst in Zambia’s history.

“This administration we are dealing with is not like Kaunda, not like Dr Chiluba, not like Mwanawasa, not like Rupiah Banda, not even like ba [Michael] Sata. We are dealing with mafias that want to control everything. But I feel sorry for President Edgar Lungu. Why can’t he run the country properly than allowing boys to mislead him? He is failing to lead the country. Even the OP, he can’t listen to them, but wants to listen to boys who will praise him,” Masebo said.

“It is an unprecedented administration that does not respect the rule of law. Hakainde Hichilema is as good as under house arrest today. It is an offence for the opposition to move, going forward, is that you should know that the Lungu administration will not give you any political space, if you wait, you won’t have it. Next year it’s elections and the PF is strategically using the police for us not to move and work. So this won’t change and won’t stop.”

Masebo lamented that only a few people were playing around with money in Zambia.

“Even civil servants are acting like presidents. So what country do we have today? Today everyone has no food, but we have a President. We only have a few that are playing around with money and do wrong things,” she said.

And Masebo said she was pleased that Copperbelt was now 90 per cent opposition.

“I have seen a great change from the people of the Copperbelt and as an old timer in politics, Copperbelt is 90 percent opposition which means the opposition will win,” she said.

“But it will not be easy, we need to face the challenges as they come. Be prepared to be beaten, killed maimed and taken to prison. We are fighting for a change for our children. Let the people who have died rest in peace. Copperbelt is ripe for change, that is why you will find all these challenges.”

Meanwhile, Masebo warned ministers not to let power get to their heads because it was temporary.

“I have seen some excitement from some ministers who think they have reached. Use the power properly. You are happy with people dying, we have been ministers before and serious ministers for that matter, not the manyengwe (child’s play) we have today. When change comes, even the power and guns you have don’t work. Enough is enough you can’t fight the people. Your ending will be bad. The people will react because of the anger the people are going through,” Masebo said.

“I feel for the PF ministers because of the misery under your leadership, even the President can’t explain and act, because everything is destroyed. Those of us who worked with a serious President like Mwanawasa know how it is to advise and work with leaders. It will not be easy. PF has reached alarming levels of desperation. We know everything that you are doing, but our silence will not be forever.”

Masebo warned ministers that the same cadres they were using to assault others today would beat them one day.

“The same cadres you are using will beat you very soon. Even ministers who work and talk to us, we know. They just want to eat with them. You will not even be listening to the results but busy crossing the borders. You will leave your houses. Ba Lungu did not know that his two terms will come to an end, but it has ended. Those misleading ministers will run away from you and [they are] even having secret meetings with HH. We have been there and we know what is happening,” said Masebo.

“For the first time, everything has collapsed in Zambia, even Christianity has ended because even pastors are bought, even Christians for Lungu. Chiefs are bought, this money will end. UPND will participate and do everything within our rights and come next year, HH will be the President of Zambia. We don’t have leaders, we just have a group of criminals. You cannot have a government that kills its people. Surely, the levels of abuse is alarming. This is a party of evil men and women. The amount of hatred they have for HH is appalling. Everything is about HH.”

Speaking at the same event, UPND Chairman for Policy and Research Dr Cholwe Beyani said arrests were a new normal for members of the opposition.

Dr Beyani, who was arrested on Saturday in Chililabombwe for conducting UPND Copperbelt Provincial elections, vowed that arrests would not slow down his party.

“No matter what PF does to arrest and put us in cells, we are determined to speak and act for the Zambian people because nothing will shake us from putting the interests of the people first,” said Dr Beyani.

PF HAS TURNED PRESIDENCY INTO AXIS OF CRIMINALITY

0

PF HAS TURNED PRESIDENCY INTO AXIS OF CRIMINALITY.

By: Anthony Bwalya – UPND Member

By Zambian supreme law, the President, any elected Zambian President, is the sole custodian of our collective public interest; and thus the guardian of not just the constitution itself but also the final gatekeeper of all our natural resources including land, forests, minerals and wildlife.

Yet since their inaugural election in 2011, the Patriotic Front (PF) have peddled a deliberate, premeditated agenda of leveraging the presidency for the benefit of the party and individuals within the party, using well placed private sector proxies but are known associates of the party in power and its handlers.

While the poverty of 9.2 million Zambians remain unmitigated, with access to public education, healthcare, water and sanitation, employment still a far cry for 83% of Zambians, the PF and the presidency have been relentless in their unholy agenda of self enrichment while sacrificing the fortunes of a whole nation.

In May 2018, the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) revealed how the PF regime, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources under Jean Kapata, failed to account for $87m worth of Mukula revenue through criminal motivations when they deliberately undervalued Mukula exports to China.

I had personally written to the current Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo on 11 June 2018 and demanded that he took this issue onto the floor of Parliament so that Zambians could get some answers, but he did not respond.

Then in 2019, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) published a detailed report which revealed an approximate $7.5m per annum Mukula bribery cartel involving known and elected public officials. This means around $60m worth of Mukula associated bribes were paid to PF officials over the period 2012 to 2019 alone.

Our estimates are that since 2012, Zambia has lost around $2bn in unaccounted for Mukula revenue under the PF regime.

The most concerning thing is that because the current ongoing criminal activities seem to be anchored around State House, and the Presidency has become immobilized and is incapable of acting in the national interest.

This is why a government Minister caught masturbating on camera is more likely to get fired than one facing serious charges of criminal indictment and appearing before court.

This is also why the presidency cannot act when protected forests such Forest Reserve No. 27 is invaded by top government officials who have turned a water aquifer into a paradise for mansions.

Why do we think the presidency also cannot act, when Zambia’s wildlife resources are being savaged, raided and transferred to private game ranches owned by politicians or their friends…

As we speak, Zambia’s gold resources are being appropriated for the benefit of foreign owned entities with known links to terrorism sanctioned countries and individuals.

What the Zambian people must know is this: this is not a problem for the president or the presidency. The ruling party establishment has designed things to work precisely in this manner. The PF understand that if you can leverage the presidency in criminal wrongdoing, you are untouchable.

And this is exactly why none of the issues raised herein have ever been a subject of a thorough, government backed investigation and precisely why no single parliamentary inquiry has been called to interrogate any of these issues.

The solution is NOT to kick out President Edgar Lungu. He is a every small part of a wider PF backed axis of criminality. The solution is to dismantle the PF by voting them out of power in 2021.

The only thing keeping the PF together, the reason they want power, is to protect their shared illegalities against the Zambian people.

Once the PF lose power in 2021, they will no longer have a reason to continue existing.

It Not HH’s Election Loss But Yours Because The Man Can Afford Three Meals A Day – George Mpombo

IT NOT HH’S ELECTION LOSS BUT YOURS BECAUSE THE MAN CAN AFFORD THREE MEALS A DAY – GEORGE MPOMBO.

By George Lemba
Zambia’s prominent politician George Mpombo has said that losing of by-elections by the opposition cannot be heaped on any political leader alone.

Mpombo says during by-elections and like any other election, there are too many factors at play.

He however says he has noted with concern that some Zambians are condemning UPND President Hakainde Hichilema over the party’s loss of by-elections held last month.

Mpombo stated that even PF was beaten by MMD in Mpulungu and other places but charging that the opposition in Zambia must however not dwell much on that.

He agrees that politics has dynamics and that it is entirely upto an individual to vote for a sane politician.

He says ruling parties World over play manipulation during elections but voters must be vigilant to protect their right and future and voice adding that if this is not taken into account, parties in power will continue holding onto power and enjoying State resources while voters continue suffering.

Asked why UPND President Hakainde Hichilema should not be questioned over by-elections, Mpombo said that the party leader can afford three meals a day but that his continued efforts to call for serious Government is motivation to voters to stand up and vote out the party they deem unfit.

Meanwhile Mpombo has said that currently there is poverty in Zambia and any politician who takes a 2kg of mealie meal, he or she would get votes.

He also charges that having been Minister himself, he knows how useless some members of parliament become when elected into parliament adding that some completely stop visiting constituencies and when they go back to ask for votes, voters don’t vote for them.

“You see George Lemba (Koswe reporter), I have been a Minister before and I have mingled with these guys. When they become MPs, that’s it, they never go to constituencies and people have now woken up and people cannot vote for someone who is not there for them and so, these are the results. We need people to also know that these elections are not about Hakainde or Lungu but they are about themselves because these two have meals as and when they want but how about you as a voter? Can you vote for someone who has made you go through pain and delivered nothing? Can you vote for someone for giving you a 2kg bag of mealie meal which will last 2 days, if the answer is yes, then continue in poverty because that is your choice but if the answer is no, then vote for the right leader,” said Mpombo to Koswe’s George Lemba.

There has been hard hitting messages on UPND President Hakainde Hichilema especially on social media following the PF’s supposedly winning of by-elections last month.

A cross section says PF won the by-elections using electoral malpractices but others say UPND lost the by-elections because of useless members of parliament, Mayors, Council Chairpersons and provincial leaders in areas where ward elections were taking place.
