PF IS NOT DEAD, CALLS FOR OPPOSITION UNITY AHEAD OF AUGUST ELECTIONS
By Makasa chanda
Miles Sampa, who has declared himself president of the Patriotic Front (PF), has called for unity among opposition political parties ahead of the August 2026 general elections, warning that no single party can unseat the ruling establishment on its own.
Sampa urged opposition leaders to put aside their differences and work together, stressing that a divided opposition risks handing victory to the incumbents. He said collaboration remains the only viable path to mounting a strong electoral challenge.
He further cited recent court rulings which he says affirm his leadership of the PF, describing the judiciary as a key pillar of Zambia’s democracy. Sampa also reaffirmed his respect for party officials appointed under former president Edgar Lungu, adding that he will continue consulting senior members to ensure stability and unity within the party.
Addressing the situation surrounding Lungu’s passing, Sampa expressed concern over what he termed delays in handling the matter, calling it “unfair.” He emphasized the need for a resolution, adding that the former president’s family should be given the final say.
Reasserting the PF’s political strength, Sampa declared that the party remains resilient despite internal divisions. “The PF has never died, the PF is not dead, and the PF will never die,” he said, while cautioning against individuals he accused of attempting to undermine the party.
His remarks come as opposition parties weigh the possibility of forming alliances ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2026 general election.
