🇿🇲 BREAKING | Police Speak Shortly as Reports of Jay Banda’s Capture Gather Pace

Reports that fugitive former Petauke Central MP Emmanuel Jay Banda has been captured in Mozambique are gaining momentum, with sources saying that police are preparing to issue a statement on the matter.

Information gathered by The People’s Brief through opposition networks suggests Banda may have been intercepted in Mozambique after reportedly travelling from Nairobi, Kenya, through Zimbabwe.

Sources have offered conflicting accounts, with some claiming he is in custody and others previously suggesting a communication blackout.

The reported location is geographically significant. Zumbo, in northwestern Mozambique, lies near the point where Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique meet. Chimoio, farther east, is a separate city in Mozambique’s Manica Province.

The wider border region connects countries with longstanding political, commercial and security relationships. Zambia and Zimbabwe have strengthened cooperation on border management, while Zambia and Mozambique maintain bilateral ties covering energy and infrastructure.

However, regional cooperation alone does not establish that any of these governments participated in Banda’s reported apprehension.

The former lawmaker, who has repeatedly criticised President Hakainde Hichilema in Facebook broadcasts, was last reported to have appeared live on Wednesday.

Our team is awaiting the anticipated police statement to establish whether Banda has been arrested, where he was apprehended and which authorities were involved.
