PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CALLS ON COMESA STATES TO BOOST INTRA-REGIONAL TRADE
President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the 21 Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) member states to prioritise trade among themselves to create jobs and expand business opportunities.
President Hichilema made the call during his maiden address at the 25th COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
He said increased intra-regional trade would promote economic growth and improve opportunities for citizens across member states.
“We called on all the 21 COMESA member states to trade more with each other before looking elsewhere,” President Hichilema stated.
The President also announced that Zambia had handed over a certificate of title deed to facilitate the construction of a new COMESA headquarters in Lusaka.
He said the Grow Zambia Agenda featured prominently in discussions at the summit, reaffirming his government’s commitment to national development.
“Grow Zambia Agenda also topped our discussions,” he said.
President Hichilema, who assumed the COMESA vice-chairpersonship, said he had departed for Lusaka following the conclusion of the summit.
“We remain committed to delivering for all our people,” he emphasized.
