🚨PRESIDENT MUSEVENI STEPS IN TO TACKLE TOORO SUCCESSION CRISIS AS KING OYO’S BURIAL LOOMS
President Yoweri Museveni has stepped in to mediate the escalating succession dispute in Tooro Kingdom, as the bitter disagreement over who should succeed the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV threatens to overshadow his burial.
Latest reports indicate that Museveni is seeking to bring the rival sides together and prevent the succession standoff from disrupting the final funeral rites for King Oyo, who died of cancer on August 27, 2026, aged 34.
The dispute pits Babiito clan elders, who selected former journalist Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the next Omukama, against members of the royal family who have cited King Oyo’s reported 2022 will, which is said to name his biological son as the primary heir.
The will reportedly lists alternative successors, including Prince Komwiswa Yoweri, should the young prince be unable to assume the throne.
With King Oyo’s burial scheduled for September 12, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa and Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki have called for calm, urging the different sides to pause the succession contest and allow the royal family to bury the late king with dignity.
The succession dispute has continued to attract intense attention across Tooro, with reports from Kalambi in Fort Portal highlighting growing concern as preparations for the burial continue.
Museveni’s intervention now puts the government at the centre of efforts to calm the situation, as the kingdom faces mounting pressure to resolve the dispute without further deepening divisions within the royal family and the Babiito clan.
