PF secretary general Raphael Nakacinda has urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to reconsider its decision to proceed with the Lumezi Parliamentary by-election, citing uncertainty surrounding the repatriation of late former president Edgar Lungu’s remains.
And Eastern Province commanding officer Robertson Mweemba says police are more than ready for the Lumezi Parliamentary by-election, with adequate manpower deployed to ensure a peaceful and smooth process.
in a statement on Wednesday, the ECZ stated that the Lumezi Parliamentary by-election would proceed as scheduled on June 26, 2025, despite the ongoing period of national mourning for the late former president Edgar Lungu, citing constitutional requirements for a by-election to be held within 90 days of a parliamentary seat falling vacant.

These people are jokers, have they not been insisting the funeral is their private matter? Why should the elections be postponed if the funeral is a private matter?
Seek legal advice. By talking to the media Raphael Nakacinda thinks he has contacted the ECZ and requested them to reschedule the Lumezi by-election.

National mourning is over after an extension that was never appreciated by the PF and some of their supporters. If they appreciated the extension they wouldn’t have held the country to mourn in perpetuity without bringing the body back to Zambia.Now we are hearing the body will only come when PF is back in power.I think this body may never come back because PF will never be back in power with the bad behaviour the PF have been exhibiting.No extension of Lumezi election date, you are getting used to extensions which you don’t even appreciate.Go to South Africa and continue mourning us here in Zambia we are done.We have actually mourned with dignity and peace more than normal days accorded to Presidential funeral.
Mr. Kalaba AKA Dr. Kalaba, lekeni abantu babombeko. People have persevered and endured a lot. People need to make money for their families. You speak like you don’t know what national mourning entails. Certain economic activities were not allowed and how do you expect people to pay their rentals? Most Zambians are not as privileged as you are. Think about others. These people who are here in South Africa are in 5 star hotels and eating lavishly. Don’t you think about that?
